As time passes, a dog's importance in a home or within a family escalates. This is because dogs have, time and time again, proven their devotion to the family and their capability to do more than what they are expected to. A lot of people are now getting dogs for companionship. However, getting a dog is not as simple as just going to a kennel and buying one. There are many considerations to take note of before you make the decision of buying a dog. Aside from the dog breed, you should look into a dog's temperament and needs to make sure that you are able to cope with it as well as provide for it.

There are many dog breeds now that you can choose from, but if want to get a sporting dog that is medium-sized and amiable in nature, then you could be looking for a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. This dog is generally dignified when it comes to strangers, although it is naturally cautious. It is also known to be responsive to calm training. You have to keep in mind that if you are not the outdoors type of person, then this dog is definitely not for you. This dog's exercise requirements should be as regular and vigorous as possible. If a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is not exercised enough, it can resort to excessive jumping or barking.

If there is no one at home to be with your Griffon, then you should not get one. The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon loves to be in the company of people at all times and suffers from separation anxiety when left alone for just a few hours. So, if you work at home and tend to exercise outdoors a lot, then this dog is the perfect companion for you. It will also be a big help to your Griffon if you socialize a lot with it in tow, so that it can shake off its tendency towards shyness.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon will also not fare well in apartment living. It is better that it be kept in a home that has a large fenced yard that is far away from major roads because of its tendency to roam and romp around all the time. If you have a neat home and plans to keep it that way at all times, then you will be at war with a Griffon. All dogs that have a shaggy coat like the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon can be quite messy. Its rough coat attracts all sorts of stuff, like leaves, snow and mud, to cling to it. It also tends to be quite sloppy when drinking and eating, leaving you in quite a mess if it should go near you with food and water all over its beard.

A Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is also not that easy to housebreak or toilet train. If you have the patience, consistency and calmness needed to see this through, then you can possibly get a Griffon as a pet. If you are just an outdoorsy person that is affectionate and calm, then there is no problem if you decide to own a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.
