English Springer Spaniel

In 1948, a group of enthusiastic horse breeders formed a group known as The Cape Boerperd Breeders Society. This group banded together in their cause when they realized that the Boerperd horse was disappearing very quickly during our age of mechanization. The people who formed this organization and society realized the popularity of the old Cape horse throughout the entire world. They knew that by working toward their cause of preserving the Boerperd horse breed, that the breed would be welcomed by other countries in the future.

The Cape horse was infamous for its endurance and hardiness. The breed was able to work hard on a minimal amount of feed and still manage to maintain its good condition. These characteristics were deemed to be outstanding and people began to work hard and relentlessly to raise the breed. They desired to implement a breed with all of these characteristics and refine and improve it. The goal was to make it as suitable as possible for the conditions in South Africa.

The ending result was the Cape Boerperd horse. This horse is a horse that is considered to be multi-purpose. It can be used for pleasure, show or for the all important task of work. The Boerperd horse is used quite often for farm work that is hard and demanding. In order to accomplish all of these things, the horse must be extremely hardy and possess a great deal of stamina in order to complete the work it is used for. The horse must also be very comfortable to ride. The horse must possess the capability for a great deal of speed at the various gaits in order for them to be pleasurable to ride by those who choose to do so. The horse also needs to have enough action and style in order to compete at the utmost level in the show ring in the harness, saddle or breeding class. The Boerperd possesses all of these qualities and is able to accomplish any of these tasks with ease.

The Boerperd horse is known very well for its temperament which is considered by many to be excellent. This makes it an excellent and very suitable choice as a horse for work, sport or pleasure for riders of any age. The disposition of this horse is known to be amiable and dedicated. The Boerperd is also considered to be a very intelligent animal. All in all, it is a well rounded individual as a breed in the equestrian world.

There is a very keen and real interest in the Boerperd horse from many other countries. The horse is found to be quite desirable and is much sought after by those who have become acquainted with this amazing horse breed. Due to this increased awareness of the Boerperd breed, the Cape Boerperd Breeders Society is now spread across the country. There is a bigger concentration of members in the Eastern and Western Cape and in Griekwas. As the interest in the breed continues to grow, the Society will fulfill its purpose and grow along with the breed.
