The Missouri Fox Trotter is an amazing breed of horse to watch. A commonality among this breed is their gait. They walk with their front hooves and trot along with their back hooves. When they are well trained, the Missouri Fox Trotter has a fluid motion from head to tail. The head moves with the gait; the ears and neck are proudly poised while stepping. It is almost a dance.

Many horse show riders look for ways to improve their performance by looking to the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association (MFTHBA). There are 19 events to choose from, and each event has its own criteria, strategies and tips. The most important thing a performer can do is study the MFTHBA rulebook.

When you choose a Missouri Fox Trotter to show, you and the horse are a team. There needs to be communication between horse and rider. Together, the two of you perform for the judges. When rider and horse understand one another, the horse can do what it is supposed to do and the rider can look good at the same time. The important thing is to relax and become one with the fluid motion of the horse. Together horse and rider are performing. The rider guides the horse through the moves, gracefully making the changes in step from trot to canter. The Missouri Fox Trotter's gait is a 4-beat step that is natural. Since this is its natural step, it doesn't have to think or remember a foreign step. Not only is the Missouri Fox Trotter famous for its gait, it is also famous for events that include fence jumping, barrel racing, and pulling carts. Their laid back manner makes them great partners in the show ring.

If you are interested in riding your Missouri Fox Trotter for show purposes, you can register with an organization that promotes shows. The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association is one such organization. If you own your own horse, you can become a lifetime member of this organization for $150. Whether you own a fox trotter or not, you can become a member of MFTHBA. If you own your horse, you can buy an annual membership for $15, and if you don't own a horse you can become an associate member for the same price of $15. You may also purchase a corporate membership for $25 if you own a farm or a corporation.

If you would like to know where and when there will be a Missouri Fox Trotting Horse event you can go online to the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association's official website to check the calendar of events. The MFTHBA offices are located in Ava, Missouri. This organization has a data base that tracks people who register and all of the existing members. The MFTHBA provides many services to its members, such as equine blood typing, securing camper spots, reserves seats at shows, and provides barn stalls for the horses. The MFTHBA is only one organization; there are others such as the Pacific Fox Trotter Association, and also the Florida Fox Trotter Association. If you are serious about riding a Missouri Fox Trotting Horse in show, find an organization near you and register.
