The Weimaraner is primarily known as a sporting dog. Due to its strong working heritage, some people have mistakenly thought that a Weimaraner should be housed in a kennel. This is a big misconception. A Weimaraner loves to stay at home with its owner, because it is a very sensitive and affectionate dog. It is a home-lover and it is very family oriented. Your Weimaraner will want to be a part of your life and it will not want to leave your side. Keeping your Weimaraner in the kennel for long periods of time will make it feel lonely and depressed, and this may lead to destructive behavior.

A Weimaraner is a loyal companion. The adoration a Weimaraner shows to its master is almost without equal. It is the living proof that a dog is a man's best friend. This breed loves human contact and interaction. If you kennel a Weimaraner, it will only destroy its drive and spirit to work and play. Thus, it will be best for you and your Weimaraner if you let it stay inside the house. This is a dog that requires a lot of attention, and if you can't afford the time to attend to its emotional and psychological needs, it may not be a good idea to keep this breed.

The Weimaraner is more than willing to go anywhere with its owner. If you want to take a walk, jog outside, or go on a hunting trip, a Weimaraner is the ideal companion to bring along. Since a Weimaraner loves human company, it is important that you allow it to meet with more people. This way, your Weimaraner will be more socialized and it will not feel threatened or nervous when it is around humans. Your Weimaraner should be socialized and house broken as early as possible, so that it will feel comfortable in its surroundings. A Weimaraner that is raised in a kennel will be skittish or shy, and it will develop social problems which will endanger your visitors or other animals.

However, if you do not have much of a choice, you may still opt to raise a Weimaraner in a kennel. Make sure that you allot extra quality time for your Weimaraner. Bring it into the house whenever you can and watch some television together. A Weimaraner also enjoys playing with its owner and a game of fetch or catch will certainly put your dog in good spirits. If you have kids or other pets at home, your Weimaraner will fit in right away. It is by nature a sociable dog, and it requires constant interaction with people and other animals. A Weimaraner will brighten up any household since it is a cheerful and energetic dog. It is also a loyal dog that will fearlessly protect the home it loves.
