Because of its pointing and retrieving skills, the Vizsla and its talents are the focus of several organized point score competitions. Several of them stress the fun and togetherness that can be had between owner and pet as exhibited by the Rally event at the South Louisiana Vizsla Club. During this activity the dog and owner run a course together at their leisure. Each of these stops along the obstacle laden path has posted instructions that the owner and dog have to figure out together. The rules are a bit more lenient than in the other events.
And in Australia, where the Vizsla is an extremely popular breed, a Royal show is held where quirkily the farming world and the show dog world collide. This is a big gathering of displays of fruits, crafts and livestock in addition to dogs. But there are less strenuous contests that require less preparation but are just as enjoyable for the Vizsla owner and pet.
Photo contests are very popular when it comes to pets. Vizsla owners are particular proud of the lean, strong appearance of their dogs. And the Vizsla is an extremely photogenic animal, some of them with stunning reddish and chocolate coats. Accordingly, the Vizsla Club of America holds a national annual Vizsla contest. The VCA official contest rules request that all entries must have never been in any other publication while only the photographer will be awarded a prize in the event of a winning picture.
Therefore, the pet's owner is not awarded a prize by default if she/he did not take the photo. No matter how much or how little experience on might have in photography, the judges may take special notice of lighting as well as original, creative themes. If you are thinking of entering you Vizsla into a photo contest, make it a fun experience without too much pressure on yourself for the dog. That free-spirited quality could reflect in the photo, making it a winning shot.
Finally, the Vizsla Club of Illinois annually conducts a number of interesting and somewhat quirky contests. The fairly common photography contest is held but there is the added bonus of Vizsla dog owners having the opportunity to get their pet's photo published in a fairly popular calendar. Plus, a gathering referred to as "Double Bubble" features contests for the Vizsla such as the Fastest Hotdog Eater, a Bird Planting Contest, and a Pigeon Race.
These competitions and contests are fun not only for the pet but for the pet owner as well. These events bring Vizsla owners from everywhere together in a social setting where tips can be shared concerning everything from a dog's health to disciplining tactics. And new friends can be made as well, both human and Vizsla.
