Dogs deserve vacations too, and Kooikerhondjes are no exception. But what do you have to consider when deciding if your Kooikerhondje is ready to travel? Some main concerns are whether he's old enough, his vaccination status, and if he has his identification. All these factors will help you to first decide is he's ready to travel and then to make any trip turn out well if he is.

Is Your Kooikerhondje Old Enough To Travel?

We may know about all the preparations that are necessary for children to travel but what about dogs? All dogs, including Kooikerhondjes, have to be old enough to handle traveling. Your Kooikerhondje should be at least eight weeks old and must have been weaned at least five days before he leaves with you for your trip. Your dog simply has to be old enough to be able to handle the demands of traveling and, ideally, using this as a minimum age requirement will help to ensure a fun, hassle free trip for all involved. Of course, this is assuming he's in a good state of health, and that includes our next topic.

Has Your Kooikerhondje Had His Shots?

Babies need their shots and once again dogs follow suit with humans. Make sure your Kooikerhondje has had all of his vaccinations and that you have up-to-date certification wherever you go. This is especially important when traveling internationally because you cannot cross borders without proper documentation. All health and rabies certificates are required for your Kooikerhondje to make the trip with you. These papers, however important, aren't the only ones you will need.

Do Dogs Carry ID?

You wouldn't travel without your identification so neither should your Kooikerhondje. This may be where you ask yourself what appropriate identification for a dog is. He must be wearing a tag that has its name, your name, your address, and your telephone number. The address that you will be calling home for the duration of your stay and its phone number is essential too. These days there is also microchip technology as an added safeguard against getting lost, but this doesn't just apply to vacation time. These are more considerations that must be kept in mind when you're trying to figure out if your Kooikerhondje is ready to travel.

There are many things that must be taken care of and many factors that go into deciding when your Kooikerhondje is ready to take that trip with you. Among them are the dog's age, whether or not his vaccinations are up to date, and making sure that he has proper identification. By taking care of all these matters you are a few steps closer to ensuring that you'll both have a great vacation.
