Many people find that when they get an Australian Shepherd dog, the dog's coat is similar but different than that of the average dog.

Many times when people go to purchase an Australian Shepherd or any other breed of dog, they go by the standards of what the dog should be like according to all the different clubs and registries. However, the dogs are going to look like whatever they look like!

When most people see the coat of an Australian Shepherd, they mostly think about how different it is in appearance. In fact, the coat of the Australian Shepherd has been seen in many different colors, as well as the dogs having different markings. When a dog has markings on the coat, there is no way of telling what they are going to look like. However, it is easy for breeders to determine the coloring of the off-springs. If you are looking for a specific color, then the breeders will breed specific dogs together.

With the Australian Shepherd, there are a couple different colors that are considered to be normal for the dog. In fact, some of the ordinary colors that you may see of the Australian Shepherd are black, a blue merle, and also red merle, which is the color of liver. However, most often when there is a red Australian Shepherd, they will also have either tan or copper points or white markings; maybe both or even none. Also, there is no order in which you will see the coloring on the dog; it will be randomly placed. No matter what type of coloring the dog has, the colors will be bold and recognizable.

When it comes to the coat of the dog, there is more to it than the coloring. In fact, many times people will specifically get an animal because of the texture or length of the hair. With the Australian Shepherd, the coat is considered to be moderate to medium length; however, it may vary from dog to dog as well as where the fur is on the body. As well as the Australian Shepherd having a moderate length coat, it also has an undercoat. However, the undercoat varies upon which type of climate the dog lives in. If the weather is extremely warm, there will be very little undercoat; if it is extremely cold there will be a thick undercoat. Also, the texture of the coat on the Australian Shepherd is considered to be medium textured. In fact, the coat usually ranges from being straight to slightly wavy, as well as being water resistant.

When it comes to looking at the coat of the Australian Shepherd, one thing that everyone notices is that the length of the hair is not the same. In fact, on the head, outside of the ears, on the front of the legs, and below the hocks of the dog, the hair is short and smooth. The backs of the legs are somewhat feathered, and they also have a moderate to full mane which is more dominate in females.

If you are not looking for a specific type of dog, then the Australian Shepherd would be a great choice. You will have no problems with the coloring of the coat, as it may come in several different colors and patterns. In fact, the Australian Shepherd is a very beautiful dog that many people have because of their colorings.
