English Cocker Spaniels love to run and play. They also love to take walks. They are hunters and this is not a job for them, but in their minds, it is fun. They are exercising and doing what they are trained for, which makes them happy. English Cocker Spaniels love the water and playing fetch. Hiking, hunting, swimming, fetching, and training are all some things you can do with your Spaniel. If they are doing something with you, that will make it more enjoyable for them as well. Sometimes they just like to lay by your side and rest.
Swimming And Fetching
English Cocker Spaniels love to swim and play fetch in the water. They are happy to run into the water and retrieve a ball or stick and bring it back to you for round two. Although you need to limit the time, especially if the water is cold, they can have more fun doing this then taking a long walk. Some dogs are adventurous and dive under water; if so, you need to watch their ears, and they can become infected if water remains in the ear canal.
Hiking And Walking
The younger dogs love walks and hiking through the woods. You can take walks for an hour or so before they need a rest. You should, however, take enough water along, especially if it is a warm day. They will not quit as long as you are willing to keep going. They come from a background of hunters and these dogs love the outdoors.
Hunting And Training
Even when you are training your puppy for basic commands or hunting, they will be enjoying the time they spend with you, and getting some much needed exercise as well. The English Cocker Spaniel is a great hunter and will go for hours through the brush looking for birds. This is part of their nature and with proper training, they can become a great hunting partner. Even in the swamps, they are as happy as they can be doing what they are trained for as long as they make you happy.
Where To Take The English Cocker Spaniel
You can take them to the dog parks, beaches, and wooded areas to get some exercise. There are so many things to do with your Spaniel and when the day is over or just too wet or cold outside, they are happy just to lay by your side and rest. They may even want to find a spot on the back of the chair or couch to lay and look outside at the surroundings and watch people walk by the house.
Anything you can think of will be fine with your dog as they are happy to be with you. You could take them for a car ride or play with the garden hose for some refreshment from the heat. Whatever makes you happy makes them happy. English Cocker Spaniels are great dogs with excellent temperaments and dispositions. Change is not as frightening to them as with other breeds.
