The Xoloitzcuintli is one of the oldest and rarest dog breeds in the world today. This dog has been in existence for over 3,000 years. In fact, the physical appearance of the Xolo actually depicts an old looking dog. That is why some people find the Xoloitzcuintli an ugly dog. It resembles the Chinese Crested hairless dog which is a common breed that is widely considered the World's Ugliest Dog.

However, the Xoloitzcuintli does not have to be ugly. With proper care and maintenance, you can raise a Xoloitzcuintli that is elegant and clean-looking. A puppy or young Xolo has very lively and expressive features, and it displays great confidence. It has a cheerful demeanor that makes it very adorable. However, as the Xolo grows, its skin becomes more wrinkled, and it becomes rather ugly when it is old. It will grow short and little white hair and look more like the ugly Chinese Crested hairless dog.

Most purebred puppies usually do not grow to conform to the standards or norm of the breed. If you want a good-looking dog, you will have to take care of its diet and health. Because it has very little hair or none at all, the Xolo does not need much grooming, and it does not shed. The standard Xoloitzcuintli has an exotic appearance and it resembles a small deer. It is also very graceful in movement, agile, and light-footed. With its intelligence and cheerfulness, it will brighten up any household. A Xolo is also a peace-loving dog that can exist harmoniously with both humans and other animals. If you want an affectionate and loyal companion, the Xoloitzcuintli is the right dog for you. The Xolo has many beautiful attributes that make it an endearing dog, but you will need to know how to bring out its best qualities. If you devote more time to its well being, it will surely turn out to be a beauty.

However, Xoloitzcuintlis have very diverse personalities. While some Xolos are energetic and lively, there are also Xolos that are quiet and withdrawn. There are Xolos that are affectionate and obedient, but some of them can be egoistic and stubborn. Xolos can also be good-natured goofballs, or serious and introverted. To prevent your Xolo from developing ugly traits, it is important that you socialize it as early as possible. A Xolo that is well socialized will have a more positive attitude towards life, and it will feel more secure wherever it is. A neglected Xolo will develop a sense of insecurity and it will become suspicious of everything around it. By constantly socializing and playing with your Xolo, you will show your dog a brighter side of life. How your Xolo will turn out depends on how you raise it. Usually a good owner will make a good dog.
