I'm so furious right now!! My dad works for the city of Pittsburgh, he does things like cutting grass, cleaning parks, stuff like that. Yesterday he was cutting grass in an area that used to be filled with projects but now they're torn down, so hardly anyone lives there anymore. Three pit bulls (one full grown, 2 under a year) ran at him. There was a guy nearby and my dad yelled at him to come get his dogs, the guy answered "They aren't my dogs" and just stood there and watched. The full grown pit grabbed the lawn mower by the wheel and dragged it away!! The two smaller ones were jumping all over my dad and one of them bit him on the back of the leg. Just then my dad's coworkers saw what was going on and ran over with shovels and picks and stuff and then all the sudden, the guy who said they weren't his dogs came over and got them and ran away with them. He would have let my dad get attacked!! He just stood there!! Owners like that are the ones who give pit bulls a bad name. I don't have a problem with pit bulls, I know some good ones, but they have good owners too. I'm just so mad that people are such idiots!! Anyways, my dad went to the hospital, got a tetanus shot, and they said not to worry about rabies because the dog barely broke his skin. Thanks, I just needed to vent, because I just found all this out this morning when I talked to my mom.
Well, that is just not right. I doubt your dad knows where to find this guy. If so, he should call the cops. I can't believe someone would just stand there like that. If he wasn't going to help, he could at least call for help.
My dad's work called animal control and the police but they have no way to know who the guy was or how to find him, so he will probably continue to raise his dogs to be mean and hurt people and other animals. People are the cruel ones in this world, not the animals. It is a shame the animals are the ones who get the bad name.
AC has a huge problem near LA w/ pits it caused their licensing to go up 75%, and I know enforcement increased on folk not licensing their dogs. The gangsters raise pits, rotts , chows and germans for fighting. Unsuitable dogs are merely turned loose in the streets, running in packs and attacking whomever. They also have a cute game where they pretend to trip and lose the leash, setting the animals on people, or their pets. It is known in this area that one should not give animals away as they get them and train their dogs to fight on the more docile animals to boost their confidence to fight.
Wow! Glad he wasn't hurt too bad. I hope the police at least keep this guy on file to warn people that he may be letting his dogs randomly attack people. How scary. What is going through people's heads when they think this is okay? Arg.
Schnauzerluv, I'm from Pittsburgh, too, and it does not surprise me about what happened to your dad. People in the city can be such a**holes. Where exactly was your dad at? Homewood, Wilkinsburgh, the Hill? I'm glad your dad's friend was there. If he wasn't, your dad could have been pretty messed up. Fin
Oh yeah, I've heard of it. The city just keeps getting worse and worse. Since you're from Pittsburgh, too, you'll know all of the local shelters have nothing but Pit Bulls. I'm glad you dad is ok, though. Fin
I'm sorry that your dad was bitten by that dog. Hope hes doing alright. "They also have a cute game where they pretend to trip and lose the leash, setting the animals on people, or their pets." I remember one time when this 'gangsta' poser kid tried to set his rottweiler/mastiff looking thing at my dachsund when i took her for a walk. The poor thing was caught in the ear by my dachsund and i had to literally pull her away. The mastiff dog went back to the boy and he started slapping it. And this kid was only 8-10 years old.
That is just sick. And what really gets me is if that kid was so young and doing that, guess what he's going to grow up to be. I'm glad your dad is ok too and like fin said it's a good thing someone else was there.
UUUggghh . That one should be in jail and his dogs should be PTS. I wonder if he gave the dogs a command to attack your dad, that your dad didn't know about, or if they just ran up attacking on their own, as he watched with apathy. Either way, it's despicable. Makes things difficult for good pit owners like me. Not to mention for the people hurt by him/them. Is the lawn mower torn up also?
I don't know what happened to the lawn mower, all i know is that dog actually dragged the lawn mower away (the lawn mowers they use shut off as soon as you let go of the handle, so it was off when the dog dragged it). But I think the dog was trying to rip the wheel off of it.
Hi, I am new to the forum and just wanted to say I am so sorry about your dad. I live in Texas and we have alot of stupied people who train their pit bulls to fight. I have more respect for animals sometimes than people because they are only as mean as people make them. We just recently had a person in Dallas county arrested and fined for killing his neighbors dog by letting his pit bulls jump on it and drag it out to an alley to die. Personally, I think he needs to be strung up to the highest tree. He stood there and watched it happened and never lifted a hand to help. Maybe after spending 6mo. in jail and paying his thousand dollar fine he will think next time. Or do these kind of people think?????
