I got my Bichon some new rubber toys because I had to get rid of her fuzzy toys...she pulled them apart and eats the fuzz them coughs alot at night... Anyway...they have a real strong rubber smell and they taste terrible. I washed them off and soaked them in dish soap for a afternoon, and just for the heck of it...licked the ring thing....YUCK!!! Not wonder she won't play with them. I had a kong that was make out of the same type of material that she won't use either. Is there anyway to get rid of the smell and taste? She really needs some toys to play with or she drives us crazy..... Any suggestions?
I tried filling the kong with everything I could think of...she still didn't like it....I think cuz it has such a rubber smell to it. I would like to find a way to get rid of the smell and taste in the rubber toys....She will chew on the nylabones with no trouble...When I licked the rubber ring...it actually makes your tonge tingle...If I can't figure out what to do, I guess I'll have to throw them away.....
I only tasted the ones she didn't play with, and it was after I washed them...I don't go around tasting the dogs toys...she was just having such a funny reaction to them, that I thought something was strange. I'm going to try soaking the smallest one in some liquid smoke and water...and see it that helps.... Thanks for the suggestions, I welcome anyother thougths.
i'm sorry i didn't mean to implie you did go around tasting your dogs toys. but lately with everyone eating begging strips and smelling their dogs feet ( myself included ) i just didn't know how you knew it tasted terrible. maybe try rubbing bacon grease on it or something that would attract her to it. what is liquid smoke ?
Liquid smoke is artificial flavoring to make something taste smoked or barbecued. The diswasher soap doesn't seem to bother the toy, I like to wash the kongs cause I think leftover food inside can become full of germs and the dishwasher sterilizes them.
Scout: I knew you didn't think that...I was just trying to let you know...that I'm not a nut case...lol. I will try the boiling them in bullion if the Liquid smoke doesn't work...although the smoke it really strong smelling...maybe I'll try microwaving them one at a time and see what happens.... Off to package up the Halloween Candy.... Later......................................................................Thanks for the help.
