does anyone else's pets like alcohol? i can count on on hand the amount of time i'll have a drink at home in a year- a case of beer would last a year! but if i do, crack that bottle or pop a wine cork, mittens come shooting out of nowhere looking for hers. she'll stick her tongue in and lick the bottle or lick it off my finger. i know its not good for them, but she does like her 'nitecap' once in a while!!!
since i don't drink i couldn't tell you if any of my current animals would like alcohol or not. but when i was younger, i went to my cousins house when my golden mix was still a baby and he loved a drink called a woo-woo
i;d never let her have any real amount, but i let her lick the cap and the bottle (ewhat she can reach) when i am done...and i know she love zinfandel wine...caught ehr stealing it one time...now i drink it out of a sports bottle so she cant get it...classy, huh? all i need is a brown paper bag!
I think its just an animal thing. I have caught Oscar trying to get beer cans out of the trash. The other day I was drinking a glass of Jack Daniels on the rocks and Oscar was trying so hard to get to my glass. But there is no way I am going to give him Whiskey. But yes, he trys to get anything I drink.
I had a Golden Retriever, Saint Bernard and German Shepherd that loved beer. The Golden was especially fond of mixed drinks. The Saint loved beer more so , we named her Genesee after my fathers favorite beer.
our oldest female boxer will turn your beer over and drink it if you turn your back on her, and by the time you turn around it's gone. my sisters Boston was our grandfathers before he died. one night he had a few shots of his favorite scotch and went to bed, the next day she would have nothing to do with him- not even a ride in the car. he thought she was just being stubborn, 2 days pass and he rolls over to the couch and there was the empty bottle of scotch - she had drank almost a cup of scotch!!!!!!!!! she does not even get near a bottle now, she will go to her bed if anyone sets out a scotch bottle
msboxers your story reminded me of when i was teeny. my parents had a gsd who was frightened of thunderstorms. so every time there was a storm my dad would sit with major and go shot for shot with him with scotch, until major was calmed down. it worked like a charm for major. i would never suggest anyone to do that to their dogs but this was 37 years ago and raising pets was different back then.
I dont ever give my dogs alcohal but when my pup was 5 months old I swear she would sniff it out and go for it every time. My friend once made me a drink and it was way to strong for me, and to strong for her, so I put it on the table. My friend and I got into a conversation and I hear these noises. I look up and my puppy was drinking that drink as fast as she could. Ever since anytime I have a party she runs around sniffing out peoples drinks and trying to get to them. I tell people who come over at parties to make sure they hold their drinks and to keep an eye on the puppy. She is crazy!
When i was younger i went to a party and some kid thought it would be fun to give alcohol to the dog. He gave the dog a bowl of vodka. The dog got sick and threw up everywhere. I have never given any of my current animals alcohol. Chuckles does come running when he hears a beer open. He also comes running when he hears the can opener. LOL
my boxer will lick the top of the bottle if it is ur hand to drink a beer she prefers to drink the hubbies bud lite, refuses to lick a friends beer bottle though, he drinks miller lite. she is so funny trying to sneak up amd lick it without you seeing her
