LOL, it's Okay!!! Yes, I have heard that Chicagoland accent. You emphasize your vowels, we just speak slow! LOL I always say, " A true Okie can add an extra syllable to any word in the English dictionary!" ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
I'm a southern belle! I have a very southern accent, but not where it is annoying. I have family in Connecticuit and they laugh eveytime I say something 'southern'. Like 'ya'll'! Do any of ya'll know what it means? Haha.
i know i have a new york accent. i used ti live right near new york, in new jersey and picked it up growing up. i don't have it so much anymore since i have moved a little further away from new york but when i get mad it comes out full force. my husband always teases me when he hears me speak with the accent.
I have a slight Southern accent also..I say "ya'll" a lot, but I don't say "reckon" or "down yonder" hehe...I thinkn Northern accents are pretty cool..I have a friend who lives in NY..anytime I talk to her I'm going "huh, huh, huh, huh" the entire conversation..she's very hard to understand..or as she would say she's very "HAhd" to "Undastand" (how do you even spell how New Yorkers talk?) And Aisha...I'm SURE you have an accent!! The Canadian accent is fun.
Hhmmmmmmmmmmm I dont think I have an accent?? But I used to go over to Texas (since we live so close in New Mexico) To visit my cousins and all my brothers(wich is three)when they lived there. My brothers moved away back over here though but anyway I used to spend like two weeks with my brothers and another two with my cousins so I would be there in Texas for a month or so and I would always come back home to New Mexico with a Texas accent and sometimes it still slips out lol. :o)
new yorkers leave the " r" off of everything. so saying drawer is like draw. my dad used to get upset all the time with us for speaking like that. even though he grew up in that area and still continues to work there he has perfect english and no accent at all. it would iiritate him so much to hear my sister and i speak that way.
Well, I don't exactly have an accent, but I do speak "Pittsburgh-ese". Most people out of state know when someone is from Pittsburgh. Our pronunciation(sp?) of certain words is pretty well known. Down Town=Dahn Tahn House=Hause East Liberty=Esliberty List goes on and on... Fin
I say y'all ALL THE TIME!!! And I say "ain't" as well, as a subsitute for any negative contraction, lol! ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596
i have a new jersey accent. and some of the ghetto type because i live in Perth Amboy for an NJ out here you probally know what i mean. like at times i say ima or yea all those good words *im a bad girl*
I live in Maine. All the tourists that come during the summer tell us we have a Maine accent... When I went down to Louisianna in Feb and then again in April I came back with a Louisianna accent (also while I was down there). I kinda pick up these accents all over the place if I hear one. When I was little I always asked my mum for christmas and birthday if I could have an accent... I dont remember why.... I wonder if they sell them on ebay...
I have the dreaded texan accent. I hate to go to places like Colorado or Flordia because the locals there seem to think its funny when I talk and they always ask me to say certain words. And I do not like to be called a redneck. That always annoys me.
I think being in California, there are so many different accents, its easy to pick up a new one at any time. Hang out with someone long enough and you start picking it up. I'm really bad with that. I think sometimes people think you are making fun of them. But I swear if I were to go to tennesee, texas, Ireland, england I would suddenly sound like them. I was raised by and Irish step mother, and still at times I say things like they do, my brother copied something I said, and I sat there thinking why is he saying that. I did not even realize it came out the way it did. So, and yes I say Ya'll too, of course we know what it means. LOL God I sound like I don't know if I'm coming or going. Its this darned melting pot I'm living in I tell ya
fin- my b/f is from pittsburgh and we live outside philly, i have always been here (right now he is screaming like a maniac at the eagles-steelers game.) and he says yins. it drives me nuts. but he thinks i talk funny, and i think he talks funny. the first time his daughter met me she said ' i like her but she takks funny' ok, considering he stutters when he's nervous that's quite a statement!!! but we add "s" to everything- acmeS, walmartS, best buyS, i dont know why. and we have 'YOUS' instead of YINS. plus, my family is famous for making up words and swearing they are real. like last week i said something was gihugic. he was so confused. fantabulous is another favorite of mine. :) its not so much accent with us but different words. like, you order a pop at dinner in ptsbrg, and if you order one here, you'll get a bizarre look and the waiter walks away. his mom is a cheesehead (from wisconsin) and i can barely understand her. course, she rarely has anything worth listening to to say... :)
