Kula hasn't peed or pooped for FOUR hours now....despite water, TWO meals and endless trips outside. I keep taking him out every 20 minutes, but he just either plays or lays down and doesn't go. When he comes back in, I put him straight back into the crate, because 3 times this morning he wouldn't go to the bathroom outside, then came in and pooped or peed on the floor. Am I doing the right thing?! I want to be consistent, and I want him to succeed (and having my floor clean would be nice as well)....but is this too much time in the crate? HELP!! Cathy
I would take him out about every hour. Keep an eye on him in the house and see how he does, if you see him sniffing around grab him and take him out. But you also do not want him to hate the crate. Maybe also spending more time outside? Playing with him until he goes? You may be out there for a while but I do not go in until they go. They eventually go. and then you praise and praise and praise. I only put my dogs in the crate when I cannot watch them.
This afternoon we tried being outside for well over 30 minutes...nothing outside, then peed as soon as he walked in the door. I had him out hourly throughout the day, but still the same thing.....doesn't do his business out there, but pees on the floor right after he comes in. I definitely don't want him to hate the crate, but he really doesn't sniff around or circle.....just squats and pees! I'm going to take him again and see how it goes...good thing he's so cute!! Wish me luck....
I had that same problem with Elie. She wouldnt poo outside. I would catch her wen she started in the house and i would bring her outside. She refused to go. As soon aas she came back in she would poo. It was so fustrating. Finally instead of throwing her po away when she went in the house i put it outside where i wanted her to go. She would get out there and smell it and finally she got the idea.
FINALLY!! He peed out there, we waited and waited....no poop until he got in the door, but I was able to scoop him up and get him to finish out there. Now at least he has a good pile out there as a "homing device". Thanks for the support guys! I'm sure I'll be needing it a lot in the coming days!
Bring some doggie cookies with you outside. When he/she finally goes jump up and down, and get all excited and dish out the cookies. They'll soon learn that going outside gets cookies and pets and lovies. I stopped giving Kiba cookies inside her awhile, and only gave them to her when she was outside... she is getting there!!!
No, he's fine. Try taking him out every hour even. Keep him outside for half an hour. My mom had the same problem with Odie, her Black Labrador Retriever puppy. But, finally, he went outside!!! You should also try bringing treats outside to reward him. Well, think of it this way. Would you rather go to the bathroom inside or out? lol
