I am not picky about the guys who I date, I only ask that they like animals. Well, I live in Orange County and not too many guys here are into animals. So what do you do? You go out with them any way. I went out with this guy who really wasn’t into animals at all. But I am only 18, still in high school so again I wasn’t too worried about it. Well, about two weeks later I broke up with him. This happened with another guy I went out with. There is just something about guys who don’t like animals that just doesn’t work. Has anyone else noticed that boyfriends that don’t like animals don’t work out?

Hi, I have also found out that if the guy you are with does not like animals it can make things very difficult. It's not impossible, but..... well I'm divorced from him now. I absolutely love, love, love my animals. And it was definitley a very sore spot in our relationship.

I think it has to do with the kind of person you have to be to not like animals. to me there is just something wrong with people who dont like animals.

When I first started dating my husband he wasn't a dog person. He didn't necessarily dislike them, he just had never owned one. He had a cat growing up, so he liked cats. I am such a dog freak! I have always had a dog. About 4 months after we got married I talked him into a dog. I did research for almost a month before I found the breed, and puppy that i wanted to get. Ivan is perfect. My husband and Ivan(my dog) are best friends. Now my husband will talk about dogs with me all the time, he started volunteering at our local humane society (he works at wal*mart, and if you volunteer so many hours they will pay the charety so much money), and he is even planning the next dog we get! He even refers to himself as daddy, and carries a picture of Ivan around in his wallet...... ............I just thought of something....he is from Cali...so don't give up, there is hope in those Cali boys! http://www.dogster.com/?37289

My experience is very similar to Jessica's....when I first started dating my husband he was just not a 'pet' person. It has taken me the better part of 10 years but I have since converted him. He loves our Boxers to death. I would never have stayed with a person who is mean to animals but some people (like my husband), just grew up without pets and was never exposed to what it was like to care for an animal and have it love you back. Now he understands what he was missing out on all those years:)

When I got divorced 13 yrs ago I never visited bars or places like that. I didn't know where to go to meet nice guys. So I started taking my dogs to the dog. Come to find out there's a dot of single guys there walking their dogs. Some I dated, and some were just good friends. Never a problem finding something to talk about. DOGS!!! Well, I ended up marrying one of the guys, and we've been married for 11 yrs.

My mom says if someone doesn't like kids or animals there is something wrong w/ them.

My bf never really liked dogs, but he'd never had any growing up or anything. He was afraid of our GSD Abby, too, when we got her. He'd go to give her a treat and hold out his hand...when she'd go to take it he'd drop it quick and pull his hand back. He was afraid of dogs because he never had been around them much. He is still weary of Abby, because of her size, I guess. But now that we've got Ace and Summer he loves them! When we're driving and he sees a dog walking he'll point it out and be like "look!". He also wants another chihuahua sometime. I've changed him :0) Im glad I did, too, because I would not marry someone who would not let me have dogs.

I once dated a guy who didn't like dogs at all. When Lacey would come near him, he would pull away from her and act all annoyed. He definitely wasn't a keeper. My guy now was not crazy about dogs (he is a cat person), but after 2 years he loves my dogs just like I do. I don't get people who don't like animals at all, they must be hard-hearted.

ummm.... My husband doesn't like animals. After our last dog and cat he refused to ever have an animal again but last christmas he was trying to find me the breed i wanted. I ended up finding it myself after he told me, he likes the dog but doesn't love him. He is on deployment now and I got a bunny. When I told him he wasn't thrilled but I don't care I am and will be the one who takes care of it, as I do for the dog. So all he said was figures I leave and you get another animal. LOL oh well Nikki

Yeah, I know I could get a guy to like animals, but my career would cause me to spend all day and night around animals, so I want someone that loves them as much as I do :) Plus, you can always do the cat test. If your cat likes him, he's a good person :) thats how I can always tell

I'm only 13, and already before ANYONE marries me they have to love animals.
