Im begining to think the "Toy Breeds are like the new thing in"
like every person male or female has a toy dog. Every one has them..its like a trend..sadly enough

so far since i got Roxy (my Miniature Pinscher" my neghbor got a beagle yorkie mix (once again a small breed) my other neighbor got a Lhapsa Apso (sp) my other neghbor got a shihitzu. And some other neighbors have toy poodles. Thats weird. Toy breeds dominate in my neighboorhood. And the weird thing is i live in and around large houses with big back yards....yet every one is still getting toy breeds. hmmm...

Busy lifestyles? Toys make a lot of things easier. That is why I chose a small dog. Plus, I have no fence, so a couple of walks a day more than meets her exercise requirement. Couldn't do that with a bigger dog.

i've noticed too that small dogs seem to have become "the new thing" lately it seems as though everyone is interested in getting the smallest dog possible. and just a couple years ago it seemed the bigger the better. i know for myself, i'll be sticking to larger dogs. little dogs are cute, but just not for me!

Actually, if you think about it, both extremes seem to be the 'in' thing these days........dogs are either being bred 'teacup' sized....or on the other end of the spectrum some of the medium to large breeds are being bred OVER sized. I can't count how many 90 lb. plus Boxers and 110 lb Labs I've seen lately.......

Maybe they are easier? I also noticed that there are not as many small dogs as large ones in shelters and rescues.

well the little ones are certainly easier for apartment dwellers....also the elderly. I live in a popular retirement area and at the shelter I volunteer at the little dogs are always scooped up right away by retirees.

Well, I have small breeds but mostly just because we love them! We have a thing for the nordic breeds. Plus right now we do not have a fenced yard and it is a lot easier for us to handle them inside then a bunch of bigger dogs. Plus, We have little girls, 2 and 4, and when we did have the bigger dogs they kept getting 'run over' or 'happytailed!' Since we do EXTREME socialization with our poms, we have no problems with them and our kids.

I like the small toy breeds. I actally wanted a big dog, but I can't because of ashma. Now that I have toy poodles, I would rather them than a big dog. They are so affectionate, and I love having a little dog in m lap whenever I am fussing on the computar (my parti poodle is in my lap now).

Lifestyle choice for us. We work most of our waking hours so we needed a small dog we could take back and forth with us or we would have no dog at all. I don't want a 4 lb. dog but a dog around the 10 lb mark is easy to take with you and still a little sturdier than a really small dog.

Yeah, I would rather own a toy breed or a small dog (I have a Jack Russell), although I like all dogs. I had two akitas when I was a little girl, and loved both of them to death! Now though, small dogs are easier to care for, and I also live in apartments! One day, when I buy a house (ie...when I get married and have 3 kids...lol) I would like to get multiple dogs and not care what size they are...but right now, my lifestyle requires little dogs. (I love my Esi baby! That rhymes in case you were wondering how to pronounce her name :) )

I have a small dog and would want nothing else. I want a small dog that can sit on my lap, without killing me and cuddle. One that I can easily pick up and put into the car, etc. I also looked for a low energy breed cause I didn't want a little dog that bounces off the walls. I reasearched alot and found the perfect breed for me. I could never have a dog over 15lbs. BTW the only other people I know who have small dogs are my mom and my friend both have pugs. Oh and my SIL has a chi. The rest i know have GSD and retrievers and labs. Nikki

I see nothing wrong with a toy dog as long as he/she isn't a designer mutt bought from a breeder. My hosue is HUGE, and I might get a pug. Shadow is a small dog, too (though we have no idea how big she will get).
