I"m not sure I'd call Mi-ki designer mutts. Because the people who are working on developing this breed are doing it correctly, they're breeding offspring to offspring, without putting new purebred dogs into the genetic line (the way cockapoo and labradoodle breeders commonly do). That is how purebred dogs are 'made'. THey continue doing the breedings with offspring until they 'breed true', the parents look the same, and the offspring do as well.. as do their offspring.
Actually Hector.....They are not designer mutts because they were not over marketed and sold as a fad. These dogs were bred this way on purpose and they set a standard for them. I think everyone confuses creating a breed and creating a fad breed. They are seperate things.
Oh actually if you read the description of hte breed, although they share common ancestors with some well known breeds, they were suspected to be originally bred in Penang off Malaysia. Sharing a common ancestor with a breed doesn't mean the dog isnt' a purebred. Many modern dog breeds share common ancestry with mastiffs and greyhounds, but are still purebred.
Oh, yes, I love Mi-Kis! Cute faces :D They are not fads, so I like 'em!! ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063 ---Mönica the Kitty http://www.catster.com/?57596 My LiveJournal: http://www.livejournal.com/users/shadowfawksie/
