Go with a miniature pinscher. They look like a mini doberman pinscher but are not related at all. The minpin was actually introduced to the AKC first. Any way with that being said i would get a min pin, just becasue how much i love my little girl. She is adorable. They arent real girly dogs, all though she is a girl dog, she acts like a boy. Anyway the min pim comes in a red color, i have seen gryish ones, i have a black and tan/rust one, and they come in chocolate. I love the min pin and i think Minpin mom would agree with me,,and whom ever else has one. Well good luck and do your reasearch!
I think y'all have put out some great suggestions. I won't add to it, there are several mentioned that I like but of course it has to be your decsion. I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts.
1. Many people don't know but you can get pure breds at a shelter. I have golden retriever rescue that is pure bred. It would be less expensive and a good thought to at least check it out and see if anything catches you eye.
2. What jessica said about the pugs (I think it was jessica). My pug is now 4 years old. She was very hyper until about a year ago. Now she has calmed down considerably. She likes to sleep most of the time now and she is getting fat! So, it's not just yours :)
3. Ivan is gorgeous. I will be sending a pup pals request.
Yes, I love my Min Pin. Lots of entertainment just watching her. Only thing is if you want a lazy dog, this is not it. My husband also wanted a manly dog but small and this is what he decided on and he loves it. They are small enough to get exercise in your apartment as long as you let them run inside. Of course, you couldn't stop the min pin from running when it gets excited. Also, everyone loves to see your puppy when you walk it because they are so energetic and small. If you are not married, they are good girl magnets!!!
I think you are confused. American Bulldogs are working dogs. They do farm stuff like hog catching and compete in weight pulling. They can reach weights of up to 120 lbs. American Bulldogs are a reasonably healthy breed.
English Bulldogs are the ones that weigh 50-60 lbs. They seem suited for you because of their activity level and manliness(lol) but they have too many health problems.
I don't know a lot about French Bulldogs. There should be some information on them at www.dogbreedinfo.com
Minpins are also a good breed that matches your weight requirements but they bark too much.
How about a Shiba Inu? They are pretty independent, affectionate and dont weigh much.
I have two Boston Terriers if you want to talk to someone who has one. I think they would make nice apartment dogs, most Bostons are pretty content to be indoors and play, they have to have exercise but not like a lot of dogs they are just as happy playing with a squeaky toy on the floor with you for 30 minutes as they are going on a long walk. Bostons are also really smart dogs they learn really quick and are willing to please. Mine are not girly dogs by any means, they have a real rough and tough attitude but are really sweet as can be. They are just the kind of dogs that like to rough house and be top dog until they get tired then all they want to do is cuddle. I really don't think there are any draw backs to Bostons other than the fact that yes they are gassy and some of them snore rather loudly. But they can't help that! They are really super pets.
Bostonbabies.....I saw this big bodybuilder guy walking two of the cutest little Boston Puppies at Petsmart today....they couldn't have been more than 9 or 10 weeks old...just precious! :)....your comment about them not being girlie dogs just reminded me . I love Bostons...I think if I couldn't own a large breed I'd have Bostons....or a Staffy.
