My dh just came back from Michigan. He brought like 40 lbs of these huge carrots with him. They are sold in these big bags to attract deer. I was going to feed one to the dogs but he said he was afraid that it would make them sick. Anyone know anything about these carrots? They look like regular carrots but they are huge and haven't been cleaned. Looks like they came right out of the ground.
If they are indeed carrots..then they should be fine to feed your dogs. I remember asking about a raw diet vs. kibble diet a while ago and a few people I believe who feed their dogs raw said that carrots are fine..but they have to be raw because cooking them takes out the vitamins? I'm pretty sure, but not 100%. I have seen huge carrots before...how big are we talking? I would wash them off, you never know what kind of pesticides people use.
Also, you know carrots stain, so I wouldn't give it to them in the house :o)
Thanks y'all. Good point about the stain. I didn't even think of that. They are about 10 inches long and 2-3 inches around. They are real carrots, I think they just didn't make restaraunt grade or whatever. Some are split and all, but they are still good. I'll give them some in the morning, they will think they're special. Ha, don't they already know it!
Gina my dogs love carrots they get carrots once or twice a week as part of their raw diet. If you feed kibble chop the carrots up and mix them in with their kibble but as MyPoundPuggle stated feeding them raw is best they do loose their nutritional value when cooked. To make them extra tasty for the dogs coat them in hamburger or bacon grease.

Well, if they are actually carrots. They are fine to give to the dogs. Hope this helps. They are good treats, but high in sugar. Most dogs I know like carrots. Sorry if I can't give you much information. But, most dogs like carrots.
We have 1 African Grey his name is Smoky and he normally sits up on his cage and likes to eat the baby carrots. His game, he drops the carrot (after he is done eating) to the ground and waits for Benji (Golden Retriever) to pick it up and eats it. Benji loves to eat carrots and the bird tries to climb as fast as he can down and tries to bite at Benji. Benji is too "stupid" to realize that the bird only drops the carrot in order to get him. Stupid dog.... but funny....
