Oh Boy, I was born and raised in Iowa. (Meat and Potatoes.) Mothers in Iowa put beef and pork in baby bottles. (Just kidding.)
I've seen how livestock is raised and I think it's cruel. I also think that an over abundence of meat is unhealthy for the heart. But eating meat has become a staple in my lifestyle and changing would be really hard. I try to separate the fact of that really good ribeye steak, to the face of that cow with the big brown eyes.
I draw the line with eating Veal. Can't do it. I also will not eat Lamb. Call me a hypocrite.
i am not and will respect anyone's opion who is as long as they respect mine to not be. I hunt, fish and that is my thing. we do not kill just for sport, we eat all we kill. venison (deer meat) is great. i'll cook it and people who say "i don't like it" will ask for seconds- then i tell them it's deer. talk about strange looks, i always get the same answer "i've always had it and it taste funny, gamey" answer to that is all in the way it is processed. we soak ours for a couple of days before we cut it up, gets most of the blood out, so the gamey taste is not there. I feel sick if i don't get meat- but thats me
I read the replies and i totally agree with who ever said that it's NOT fair that some peopel will say I ONLY EAT whte meat! a vegetarian means eating no meat and white meat is STill meat an dthe animamls your eating can still feel pain so I'm proud to say i don't eat ANYTHING witha a face including seafood!
I know this is bad, but I will never be able to eat lamb, duck, deer, or pigs' feet (but I do eat bacon). I know this is bad, it's still an animal but lambs are so cute and whenever someone tries to get me to eat deer I just have to watch Bambi and that's it. I could never eat Bambi!
MSBoxers that's how I was brought up too. Living on the coast we get more fish than deer, but sometimes. You know it's funny that you say that. My mom used to try and sneak venison in things, like chili and I coulud always taste that gamey taste. I recently heard someone saying it had to be soaked in milk to get rid of that taste. Is that what you use?
I hate to say that our family tradition for Christmas is leg of lamb and I absolutely love it. A lot of people don't like the taste though. Now, here's my being a hypocrite, I won't eat goat. Down here it's sold as cabrito (baby goat) and once I saw one before it was processed that blew it for me.
countrygal with your anemia you need the meat, have you ever tried venison are buffalo? alot leaner than beef. i understand if you don't like it, and as long as you take your vitamines that's good. I refuse to eat VEAL, YUCK< double YUCK and triple YUCK!!!!!!
also i learned that a vegitarian will not eat meat and a VEGAN will not use any animal product.
gina we soak our in water and then cut it up. if we get some from our processor that has not been we soak it in milk or beer or coke. mainly use that in something with seasoning (alot). i have only found one meat i won't eat and that's veal. LOVE LOVE LOVE seafood
Mmmm...MSBoxers, got room for me? I miss most the deer jerky and salami my dad made of the little parts.
I was a vegetarian when I was in my 20's for 2 years. The Iran/Iraq war was in full swing and Iranian TV unlike American, was not edited. I could not eat anything that had blood. My boyfriend, that I was smitten w/ would amuse himself at the restuarant...I wanted to help him chef, so that I could be close to him and look at him. He always asked me to bread the veal so he could watch me squirm.
When I eat red meat, I get sick. My stomach hurts and I just feel like crap. I do eat fish and chicken. I don't claim to be a vegan or vegetarian. I do not wear leather and I do not believe in hunting, except in extreme circumstances. I am not a big milk drinker, not because of where it comes from, just not my thing that's all. When I do eat red meat it has to be VERY well done, I can't stand the sight of bloody meat going into someones mouth. YUK! I drink too much pop, although we are cutting down alot, mostly because it causes really bad heartburn. We are down to about two a week. We definitely go over board on ice cream. And Popcorn!
i dont eat red meat because i dont particulary care for it. so when my anemias does get out of hand i eat chicken that week and maybe one day eat red meat. i do feel guilty sometimes eating meat because i love animals but i have to do what i have to do to keep my anemias in control. when i was in high school i was a strict vegan but i became so weak i couldnt stay awake. i liked being a vegan but my body didnt. anyone who wants to live the vegan lifestyle i say good! and those who love meat..right on! its all about finding what style fits you and your body. not just your opinions.

gina i love soda too. putting it in the freezer to make a slush is great !!! people always used to think i was weird because i would have a soda with breakfast, yep with my milk and cereal.
i am not a vegetarian at all. i love meat. and actually, if i don't eat meat at least every other day, i start to feel like crud. and then when i eat a piece of chicken i feel so much better.
i have always been curious as to why all of a sudden people are becoming vegetarians. if our ancestors did not hunt for their food none of would be alive today. so why was it okay for them to hunt for survival, and its not okay for us to eat meat in today's society.
and just for the record, i am not trying to bash anything. a few of my friends are vegan and i don't have a problem with it. i hate veggies so i could never be a vegan
