I am not a vegetarian. But I do love the veggies! if I go somewhere to eat where there is a buffet, it will be veggies and starches on my plate, not one meat. If I lived alone, chances are I would be a vegetarian more by taste preference than by any principle.Plus, it honestly makes me feel gaggy to deal with it while it's raw... As it is, my husband loves the meat, and cooks it quite well, and I am a willing participant in eating it up.
TJ that was very well put. I respect and understand your decsion. I know what you mean about people trying to shove it in your face. I am a sea food lover big time. There are many people who don't like sea food, one of my own kids although I don't know how that could have happened. lol They are always making nasty comments, like How can you eat that, the water is dirty, etc. And the thing that really ticks me off is to go out to eat with a crowd of people and have them make comments. For instance we used to have monthly staff meetings and our unit would meet for lunch. This one girl always wanted to sit by me but she hated sea food, if I ordered anything she would make comments about how it stunk and the smell made her sick. Then why did she have to sit next to me? I know fish can have a strong smell, but I made a point to order shell fish which generally doesn't smell as strong. Anyway, the point is I know how you feel but from the other side. :)
Gina i have met some "veggies" like that and i feel the same way. i like meat and veggies and if you don't that's fine but if you want to start a war at the table slam what i am eatting. it will just make me more than willing to shove it down their throats. i respect someone's choices as long as they respect mine. and that's just the way it is. i am glad that the ppl who are vegatrians are vegan are happy and healthy but for the "activist veggies" who try to "convert" the "unhealthy" then i truely would like to go one on one with them. thankfully no one has tried to "convert" either way. Happy meat(ful)(less) thanks giving.
as an aside, most ppl who raise any type of livestock give their stock as much medical treatment as we give a dog, cat, ect. that is how they make their living and they can't do that with sick animals.
I'm 13, and was a vegitarian for about 3 years before, but got sick on not having some vitim that was in meat. I wish I could be one again..but I too also felt bad becuase my mom struggled when it came to dinner.
as for the vitamins and stuff, you can get those from other foods as well. for example tofu and beans. when i decided to become vegetarian my doctor put me on calcium and magnisuim pills, iron pills, vitamin b6, and vitamin b12 pills. i know thats a lot to take, but i really don't mind
tj the vitamin thing goes for anyone on any "special "type of diet. anyone on atkins need to make sure they get enough B vitiams. B is for brain and seriuosly that is the place that uses most B vitiams exspecialy B9 (folic acid) besides being good for women who want to are having a baby it is really good for older people. some alzhimers has been linked to a vitamin B (9) deficiency.
