Well when you make that list, go ahead and forward it to me...MY neighbors could use a refresher course too. This is the 4th night in a row that they have gone to bed and just let their 8 month old puppy outside to RUN LOOSE around the neighborhood all night. I have caught him twice now digging under my fence trying to get in when I let my dogs out for their run in the backyard. They chain him all day long while they're at work, but then let him loose at night....and I don't live in the country...I live smack in the middle of the city, right off a major intersection. <sigh> I think its time to call AC.

Anyhow Heff...sorry to hijack your thread for my vent....give me a couple minutes to chill and I'll actually try to ANSWER your question...lol.

This really hits home with me because of my irresponsible neighbors too. I can give you a list, but give me a few to think about it too.

yay! Thanks you 2. An 8 month old puppy??!?! what are they, insane? GOSH. Oscar (the lab/pit mix running loose) is no more than 2 years old I think, and he's also not neutered so I would think there'd be some puppies at some point. There are 4 others that run loose but stay within 2 houses or so, so I think they're just living on luck. You don't think I'm going to be doing any harm by making this list? I'm doing it anonymously(sp?) and I only think it will do good.

Ok, I'm just going to start typing things as they pop into my head. By the time I'm done you might already have a dozen other posts so if anything is repeated sorry. These will just be in random order as they come to me.

Keep your dog on a leash at all times that it is outside. Not only for the safety of the dog, but because it's the law.

Treat your dog like you would a child. Would you let your child run around in the street?

You may think your dog enjoys being able to run loose, but he/she would far more enjoy a walk with you on a leash or in a secure area to run, like a fenced in yard or dog park.

Before I go off on a tangent. Other than the dog being allowed to run loose do they take care of it?

those are good ones. Keep them coming you guys. I'm drawing a blank. and Yes Gina, they feed him, and that's about it. Maybe play with them. My brother plays with him more. He has a dog house, its a dog carrier without the door outside. He's allowed during storms and stuff, I think. I hope they let him him during the winter cause if not, he'll be screwed. =(

A dog should be a part of the family. They are social creatures. They want to be inside with you.

A dog should not be left out in the elements.

All shots need to be kept up to date, this also for the sake of the dog and the law.

The dog needs to be neutered. Otherwise you are going to end up with puppies that will end up at the pound.

A dog is a live animal with feelings, it should not be fed and left out to fend for itself.

Dogs do become depressed and if not taken care of can/will become ill at great expense to the dog as well as financially.

this dog also loves running along the fence with my dog. my dog would eat him if he came into our property. He also likes to sit between my fence and my neighbors fence (who have 2 dogs) and just let them bark at him forever and then he'll leave. my dog isn't neutered and im not interested in doing it to an old dog but this dog is loose and mines not, so he's more of a concern than my dog is

I'll just add on to Gina's post as things pop into my head...

all dogs should be registered and wear their tags ALL the time. They should also wear a tag with the owner's contact info on it.

A responsible dog owner would care about his or her dog being allowed to roam the neighborhood and create animosity between the neighbors and the dog owners.

When a dog is left to roam and encroaches on others property you run the risk that the person whose property that is may not like dogs and could do harm to your dog.

Dogs are wonderful companions that will offer you unconditional love and should be treated with love and affection.

Letting your dog run lose or not letting him/her socialize with the family is depriving your dog and is neglectful.

responsible pet owner's do not allow their pets to become a neighborhood nuisance...ie. digging, pottying in people's yards, and getting into trash. I really don't like having to clean up after my neighbor's dogs...I have enough to clean with my OWN two...

they also need to take into account the safety of the neighborhood children, and the fact that some people just don't like dogs and probably do not find it amusing to deal with other people's dogs on their property

I thought of another one.

If you dog is allowed to roam the streets you run a great risk that the dog will be run over, hurt someone else, or be hurt by someone else! It is a crime to then let the dog suffer and not seek medical attention.

You can be fined or lose your dog if you continue to let him/her run the streets.

Ok, my brain is dead. I know there is a lot more but I'm trying to come up with things that fit your situation. Just make sure the note can't be traced back to you, even though it's for their own good people can get pretty pissy about stuff like that.

ya, these people are new neighbors (maybe about a yr and 1/2?) and I've never met any of them, but they've seen me, probably not knowing that my brother is their friend. There also a church going family, and the dads a minister so I don't see them going crazy. They will get over it because they're in the wrong and I'm only trying to help

Good deal. After you make the list could you have it translated to spanish so I can give it to my neighbor that lets the two chi mixes run loose and chase cars down the street and kids at the park every single day. I have called AC three times. They just tell me to keep calling when they're out. Ha, they are out 24/7. AC here is joke! Those poor dogs are going to get hit by a car, it's just a matter of time.

I just thought of something. I don't know if you have this problem or not, but over here these people have the two chi mixes. What makes me angry is that they run down here (3 houses down) and bark at us when we come out in our own yard. I love dogs, but that really ticks me off. I don't want to go out in my own yard and not even to be able to speak to anyone because the barking is so loud. Then to top that off not even be able to take my own dogs out in the yard. It really makes me angry. It's a good thing I love dogs, someone who didn't might do more than call AC.

Heffenator- My we had the same problem with our neighbors Golden Retriever. They always let it run loose, down the middle of the road. My mom brought the dog back to them and then told them they really shouldnt let their dog run loose. When she was running another day the dog came limping down the road after her, so she brought the dog back and it had been hit by a car. The owners didnt seem to care, so the left the dog outside still. Finally my mom called Animal Control, i belive and they came and talked to the owners, from then on the dog was either kept on a run or inside. Calling AC isn't a bad idea, I would give them a chance and talked to them first though.


Our neighbors really didn't like us calling Ac though. The next summer our German Shepherd was out in our yard without a lead, and so they callled AC, when they came they checked Mandy (our GSD) out and realized that the call was jsut in spite of the call we made. Mandy is so well behaved that she never needed a lead, especially not when we were out there with her. She was very territorial.

well, the thing is, we don't have a local AC. I really don't want them to take him or anything because he's great. it's not his fault he has dumbasses for owners. I also doubt the police would do jack
