miniature dachshund puppy for under $200? Patrick's brother had one and while he was working away from home, his wife(now ex) gave his dog away. Didn't even tell him. He was so very mad. Now it has been a few months and he would like to get another one and he would like a pup but he cannot afford more than $200 as far as buying one goes. He is looking for a little red female. This is not a want ad or anything like that. I just do not know where I can find a dog for that price that is not a byb or pet store. The doxie rescues here never get pups. neither do the shelters.
well katz don't know what to say without getting in trouble LOL. I don't think you live real close to us either but my uncle raises dashies as I put it. He sells for very reasonable around here because even though his dogs are AKC registered he doesn't like to do the paper work .... so sells them without papers. have you checked your local papers??? Alot of times around here you will find dogs listed in the larger city paper or local paper?? sorry I can't be of much help ?? without getting in trouble?? Jubilee
Katz: do you not work at a shelter? Sorry if I am wrong here and going a little over the line but if anyone would have connections it would be you. A pure breed under $200.00 you have to be kidding me.
Why not give him one of the dogs that are on death row?
Because he doesn't want a mixed dog. He would like a mini doxie. I know that they are not in the shelter often, never for pups. I am not giving this dog to him anyway. I told him I would see if I could find him a doxie for under $200. Before you all rant on me about the shelter dogs, most of you have purebreds. I do and mine are from breeders, so alot of you know what it is like wanting a certain breed. He loves doxies. He misses his dog Missy and would like another Dachshund. He wants a puppy, he knows all about housetraining and puppy chewing etc. Not everyone has $1000 dollars for a dog. He has enough to care for the dog and do all of the proper vet care. Man, I thought I would get more help than this. Thanks to all who actually gave me some good advice.
in alabama people sell purebred dogs for under $200 all the time, even registered ones. Mostly labs. People are poor down here and many 'country folk' just aren't interested in paying a lot of money for a dog.
maybe patricks brother can get an adult dog from a rescue instead. if he wants a puppy for that price he is going to have to get from a byb. depending on your definition of a byb that is not always a bad thing. but in reality he is not going to get a doxie from a reputable breeder unless he up his price tag. try looking in the papers under the pets section in the classifieds
Well, I guess I am wrong again Minniyar. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I was born in Alabama and grew up there. There was a lady that bred Chi's near where I lived and sold them for $500-$1000. Not everyone in Alabama is is poor. You really piss me off at times about your comments about Alabama. You know that is my home state.
Uh I LIVE IN ALABAMA. In Auburn, Alabama to be exact.
I'm sorry if you feel I single out alabama, but even though I am not from Alabama, I think living here for 15 years gives me the right to state my opinion on the state of this state. I live about a mile from border of Macon and Lee county, macon county is one of the poorest counties in the state. Lee county is one of the wealthiest. Alabama ranks 39th among the 50 states in Per capita income, making it one of the poorer states in the US.
I have seen purebred and AKC registered lab puppies advertised in the paper here for as little as $75.
oh yeah and no I didn't know you were from Alabama. I don't pay attention to where people are from (cept Pyrmom, since she lives in Florida and got hammered by hurricanes).

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, well, good for you. Exercising your rights to say what you feel about Alabama because you have lived there for fifteen years, but what does that have to do with pets. Tell your feelings to your neighbors.
You certainly did know I was from Alabama. That came up when the football game was on, and during the hurricane.
Why did you delete the Troll thread, and not this one? Never mind I see it started out about dogs.
***Edited By: cricketmom on 11/28/2004 1:16:08 PM*** Reason: Minniyar
You're telling me what I do and don't know? You're a mind reader? Or just calling me a liar? I didn't remember you were from Alabama. I dont even remember what state Scout1 or Pearl are from, and I've known them on the forum longer than anyone else. I don't make a point to remember such insignificant details.
I was just responding to your statement that people don't sell purebred and registered dogs for $200, there is no reason to get all defensive. They do indeed sell for so little in this state. In this county. In this area of the country. They didn't where I lived in Illinois or in Indiana though.

Katz, I live in Alabama and have a sister that raises Dashaunds. They are popular dogs in her area. I am not sure how much she sells them for but it wouldn't be over $500. And Cricketmom is right. Not everyone in Alabama is poor. Unfortunatly, Minniyar lives in Auburn. Roll Tide

Kats - I live in Tennessee and there are pups for sale all the time for $200 and under. A few years back I actually bought an AKC doxie for $125.
The people had one male and one female and bred a litter each year. I don't consider that a puppy mill or a BYB. They willingly gave me their vets info and I checked them out - they had an excellent record with the vet. Either way, he was a great dog. Unfortunately, he succombed to parvo.
Check your local paper and then just check out the breeder. It really shouldn't be that hard to find one for that price.
