I'm Kris, Ill be 22 on Monday and Im at my last year of college at northern illinois university. I have three dogs, Ace is an 8 mo old chihuahua, Summer is a 7 mo old pug/beagle mix, and Abby is a 1 yr old german shepherd.
I'm "GrannyRedStick" -- just a couple of nicknames ... couldn't make up my mind. I'm a Granny to 5 beautiful grandkids, 2 boys & 3 girls. They're just gorgeous.
We put our beloved 15 year old dog Samantha to sleep on October 4 this year. After soul searching, we decided to adopt a puppy from our local shelter, which proved to be sadder than losing Samantha. The puppy, Maggie, had Parvo, and didn't show symptoms until 4 days after we got her home. The shelter Vet. didn't see the symptoms as anything but a stomach virus... it was a virus, the deadly Parvo. I then brought Maggie to my own Vet. and all he could do was apologize and tell me that she was so far gone that she couldn't be saved. I had to stay with her while he put her to sleep. I wanted her to see my face as the last happy face on earth. Now, both she and Samantha are happy in doggie heaven, where there are lots of squirrels and butterflies.
My name is Carolyn and I'm 31 years old. I have been married for 5 years and have two boys - 3 y/o and an 11 y/o. I am a Psychology major in Nashville, TN. Veterinary Medicine was my first choice, but I would have had to move to Knoxville or Memphis to major in Vet. Medicine - so I went with Psychology instead. Children - is my primary area of focus.
I have been around animals my whole life. I am self educated on canines and continue to learn new things everyday. I am a strong advocate of responsibly bred cross bred dogs - because of what they have to offer us.
I am the proud owner of 2 dogs: Percy & Piper, whom we just adopted last week. Both are Chocolate Labs.
We have 3 cats - Napster, Fatty, and Mousey, 4 fish, and a goat named - Hector.
My goal is to put myself in a position to open my own no-kill rescue shelter for unwanted dogs. Having a degree in Psychology helps with the funding of that dream!
Thanks for your sympathy... it's been heartwarming to hear from everyone I know about Maggie. She was just adorable.
My son and family live in Suffolk, VA. He & his wife were both in the Navy and are now civilians working for government contract companies. They've got 3 kiddies that I miss desperately, since I live in Louisiana.
They had lizards, that the kids caught here in Louisiana, but alas, all of them (4) have gone to lizard heaven. Now they only have a fish, which is just dandy with their mom. Maybe when the kiddies are older, they'll get a puppy.
Granny, Suffolk is only about 30 minutes from me, although some people would say they live out in the boone docks! :o) I think once my DH retires, we will stay in Virginia also..we have lived here for almost 10 years now with our first duty station being in California...I loved Cali..but sorry to all you Cali folk...it wasn't for me! It is a place I like to visit, but not live. Virginia is perfect for our family. We are the half way point between my family and my in-laws. Do you think you'll get another pooch any time soon? It must be such a hard choice to make. I wish you the best!
I'm Cathy...been married forever to a great guy, 9 yo son and 11 yo daughter (not so much liking this "preteen" phase...when is my sweet, happy girl coming back???). We live in Colorado. I'm a speech-language pathologist and work mainly with traumatic brain injury patients...it's truly the best job in the world. I also work as a substitute teacher at the elementary level. Our only pet is our 3 month old cockapoo pup, Kula. He's our first family dog, so I'm learning a lot fom everyone here! For now, I spend a lot of time giving Kula potty breaks, training him and lovin' on him!
I'm Julia. Live in Kentucky, I am 20 years old. I showed horses my entire life up until about a year and a half ago. I was studying to be an animal photographer and artist. But now I have two wonderful Boston Terrier puppies that along with my other animals takes up all of my time! When they are older I want to start my own kennel and raise the best Bostons around! Right now I have 7 horses: Ready, Freckles, Deuce, Hancock, deluxky, 2 i don't know their names LOl, I have 6 dogs, Rodeo, Popeye, Olive Oyl, Spook, Bubba, and Artemis, 7 cats, Coffee, Coco, Circe, Chance, Chive, Cheetah, Cracker Jack 3 goats, Gretchen, Cabarito, and Abby 5 rabbits, Darcy, Duke, Diego, Dominque, and Dice, 5 hamsters, Madison, Pippen, Frodo, Sam, and Merry, 3 birds Tiki, Fly and Eli, and finally one fish, Davey Jones.

lol Nikki..no way is my DH Army! You know how there is always an arguement in that one! DH right now is on a guided missle cruiser (won't say the name due to security reasons). He's an MA (Military Police) and has always been on Carriers up until his new orders. I am a daughter of a retired Marine of 27 years..military is all I know, however....I have heard great things and not so great things about Hawaii (as far as being military there) I have never even been given the opportunity to transfer there. DH was stationed overseas for 14 months..home for 2 1/2 months and gone again :o( 'Tis military life for ya! We live on base currently, near the Marine Corps Exchange..we have been here since '95, so I wouldn't be surprised if we ran into eachother!
What about your DH..what was his duty station while ya'll were here?

My hubby is a Nuke ET Chief. If you don't know what a nuke is ask your hubby i'm sure he knows ;) LOL He is on subs. He is currently gone. His worst one was 2 yrs ago he had a 7 mo deployment in the war.
When he was stationed in Norfolk he was on the Phoenix which is now decomissioned (we decommed it in 97 in NH). So we only lived there 95-97. Thats pretty funny you were there then. We lived in Virginia Beach. Housing hahah the list! noway!
We also live in Military housing here (everyone gets housing here unless they choose not to) but it's army because it was the only one available for senior enlisted and a 4bdrm, its nice and one of the only ones with central AC here :) ahhh only 8 1/2 yrs till retirement! ;)
Nikki-are you guys planning on staying in Hawaii after he gets out of the service? My niece and her husband ending up buying a house after he got out of the marines. (I think he might have been in for 8-10 years. Not long enough to retire-just long enough for them to pay for his degree!) They live in Kailua now.
When we visited, they were still on base. We stayed at their house-just the 2 of them, and they had a 3 bedroom home!
We are definitly not staying. He only has 3 yrs here, 4 max. I love it here but it's way too far from "home" in PA. My grandma is getting up there in age (70) and MIL in GA just had a cancerous lump removed from her breast (dh doesn't know yet) so I'd like to be close enough to home incase anything happens and a 14 hr $800 per person flight just isn't for me! Neither of our families can afford to come here unless we pay for it so i'll enjoy our 3-4yrs, can say we lived here, my children learn something they wouldn't have if we didn't (Hawaiiana) and have memories, plus if we ever come back and visit I won't get lost ;) It's been a great experience in the Navy, we prob would have never left Erie. We have lived almost the entire east coast this is our first west coast and boy did we go west coast ;) We've lived in Orlando, FL; Saratoga Springs, NY; Virginia Beach, VA; Kittery, Maine; Back to NY; Groton, CT; and Hawaii (in that order) in the 11 yrs he's been in (stying till retirement). and drivin the entire east coast all the way from Maine to Kingsbay, Georgia. Our next station will prob be SC or NY again. Oh and we've been here like 13mo so 2-3yrs more to go.
