I am moving into an apartment this summer and I was wanting to get a small dog. I've looked at several different breeds but I'm not sure if an apartment is a good place for any of them. I've heard that the bichon frise is a calm lap dog. If you know different or know of any other breeds I should look at as well please let me know. Any information you have will help. thank you!!
I had a bichon frise dog for 12 years and absolutely loved him. If I could have another I would. He was soft, gentle, loving, calm, sensitive, silly, cuddly, a great indoor dog who thought he could be a beagle at times, and best of all he was my best friend. I never thought I could love a pet like I did. I miss him more than you can know. His history as being a lap dog is true. He always wanted a paw touching me. He loved to ride in the car sometimes with the wind blowing through his fur. He loved taking a bath or a shower and played in the tub whenever he had a chance. He even loved swimming in the pool. I had a life jacket for him, too! He loved to sneak into the candy dish and into my purse for gum. But the telltale sign of the candy, cough drop or gum hanging from his jaw gave him away. At Halloween he proudly wore his costume and greeted every trick or treater with a smile. If you can get a bichon, do so and treat him or her with all the love you have. He will surely give it back to you a million times over.
I have a Bichon (Snow) that is almost 2 years old. She's a great little dog now that she's gone thru her puppy stage. She would be happy to sit in my lap 24/7, but also loves to play. Her current "sister" is an 8-year old German Shepherd, and they play all the time. I found that is very easy to teach Snow tricks. They LOVE being with their people and are happy to go for rides and visiting. She makes me laugh all the time, as she is a very comical little girl. She is very good about teling me when she has to potty, but expects a doggie cookie when she has completed her task. They're wonderful little friends, just be patient during the early stage.
I love my Bichon. This is a good breed for apartments. They not only don't need outdoor space, they don't like it. They are lap dogs. They love human companionship. They aren't good when left alone for long periods at a time.
Our new baby boy is 9 minths old (Zayve). Oh I love him. He cuddles, and is calm when we are, but he will run and play when ever we are out. I just thought he was a cute puppy when I bought him, I had no idea what a great dog I was getting, I definatly recommend BF's. Zayve is a great dog/puppy!
Bichon's make the perfect apt dog. They live for human companionship. I groom some terrific bichon's. The best advice I can give you comming from a person who sees alot of them, Make sure you find a good breeder. They have a ton of health problems including horrible allergies, epilepsy, ear infections, etc. You want to go met the person you plan to buy a dog from, see how they keep them, and avoid breeders who seem sneeky. Make sure you get a good health guaratee, I would try to find someone who does 2yrs. if I could. Good luck
