I'm sooooo sad....my IG was attacked while at "doggie daycare". In a four hour emergency surgery, she had a lobe of her lung removed and has four more 4" long gashes in her lungs. She also has four broken ribs.
Everyone is amazed she survived but I worry now as her recovery is not as quick as I expected. It's been 9 days and she is still barely eating and not moving from her bed (in front of the fireplace) all day!
Why were they letting them play together! They should defianately be responcible for the bills. I hope your dog is ok. I hate hearing about stuff like that. I've heard so many bad storys about leaving dogs at places that I don't know how the people are still in buisness.
It is not the owner or the other dogs fault. It is the day cares. I'm sure the other dogs owners feel horrible. If my husky played with a little dog like that it is very possible it would get hurt. If I was there then fine sue me but if not it was the daycares fault. Some dogs just are not always good with other dogs(I still can't believie they let the two play together with that big of a size difference!). Your dog is one of the tiny thin ones with thin skin right? I can't remember if I'm thinking of the right dog.(maybe it is bigger and i just can't think straight :) .I think that is what one of my friends had-its skin would ocassionally rip when it got too excited! I'm sure if your dog would have bit a smaller dog there that you would not have wanted him pts. Are you going to ever take him back to the doggy day care? Did they offer an explanation?
So sorry to hear about you IG. Is he better now? What happened to the Doggy Daycare? We have a dog park here where the dogs run of their leads and when ever the large malimuts or similar all are on alert as they seem to pick out the smaller dogs and can be quite aggresive but the owners dont seem to care and when something does happen they say its the first time they ever did that.
kerrynst, ANY dog can attack another. My friend has a malamute, they are SWEET dogs. The owner's just 'don't seem to care', and usually it IS the first time they do that. Please stop picking on pacific dog breeds! Thanks so much! ^_^ No trying to start a fight here.
God news on KoKo. they checked her out at the emergency facility and gave her some pain meds. She is very "skittish" with good reason, I equate it to being attacked by a grizzley, but is generally doing alot better today.
I find it difficult to blame anyone since they are still only dogs. The Daycare owner stated that they have often played together with no problem. Why they put my 10 lb "twiggy", who is as breakable as glass, with such a large dog is a good question. I have seen them do it both ways...KoKo has been going there for over two years. Her best friend, Bella, is a Golden who would lay down for KoKo to crawl aboard to take a nap.
To answer your Q regarding the bills...$7,000 !!!!! the number is larger than the dog for sure! When I checked her in I called the owner of the daycare and asked for her credit card, since they wanted a $2,000 deposit. She had no problem with that. On check-out day I called her again and she got the dog's owner to pay in full...something about a form we sign each time we leave our dogs that indicates we are responsible. My attorney disagrees saying it wouldn't apply since the daycare showed "neglect" by putting the two together.
Thank you all for your kind words and concern and have a happy holiday.
Glad to hear she is doing better. Good luck with the procedings. I agree that the other dog is not to be around yours but should NOT be put to sleep. Hope your baby has a fast recovery and is back to her old self again.
