right now i buy nylabone edibles and compresed rawhide (flavored) munchy sticks and they love them. but they are chewing me out of house and home- they are seriously going to have to get jobs if they are going to continue this! i need something that will hold their attention and not be gone in 10 minutes. plus i worry that they are filling up on chewies and not eating enough kibble.
If they can keep interested with those kong things they'll never chew through them. I put a little peanut butter in them and the dogs will play with them all day. ANd my dobie can get through one of those 3 foot rawhides in an hour and he has yet t o do any damage to his kong.
Rope tugs at Wal Mart.(Cheaper than pet store). Marrow bones, fresh and raw, the ones that are 1 1/2 in. widex 2+ in. long (they look like a section of pvc pipe) these are hard enough that I find ones dug up occasionally that are 20 yrs. old. They eat the nutritious marrow, and then screw around w/ the bone indefinately.
Eskie - I don't know how your dogs are, but Duncan is just not interested in chewing things he can't pull apart. I mean he LOVES rawhide because he can rip it up and chew it. But he is bored with Kongs very quickly and has never shown even the slightest interest in nylabones.
I might look for one of those marrow bones. Let me know if you find the cure for the crazy chewers.
COUCHES! Get them couches! My dog LOVES to "eat" couches. We have some abandoned shacks near the house here with old furniture in them and she especially loves to destroy the couches (along with the beds and chairs) :)
hmm...maybe if i were n the neighborhood to redecorate...but i LIKE my furniture!!! snowball has chewed the rug 2 days in a row now, so back to the crate we go! probably safer with the xmas tree up anyway...
acey- even when she is 'running free' she is confined the the living/dining room and kitchen. no upstairs. i came home one day and found she had locked herself int he bathroom with the cat. so she is baby gated to the downstairs :)
