Well, I am wondering if I should be concerned or not. I have never owned a dog before but took some time to research varies breeds and decided on one that would best fit me and my living situation (I live in an apartment). I concerned looking at a shelter or rescue but my problem with that is apartment complexes want a crazy fee and monthly charge for have a pet. I know shelters or rescues will want to contact my rental office before I get the email which means I will have to pay the fee. It is not that I do not have the money, but I do not see why I should have to pay a $300 (non refundable) fee plus an extra $30 a month to own a pet. So my feeling is I will get the dog and hope I do not get caught (I know a few people in my surrounding buildings who have been doing that for awhile). If I ever do get caught I will be just suck it up and pay the fee. Sorry for all the info up front but I wanted to give everyone some backgroud first.
Well I talked with a few breeders and the closest I found was about 3 hours away from me. I asked them several questions and felt comfortable getting the dog from the breeder. Well one night I received an email that they had puppies available along with some pictures of each puppy on their website. The puppies were going fast (once a person put a deposit on the puppy it was reserved for them). I did not really want to get a puppy just based on looks but I figured if I was going to get one this would be my only option so I picked one out. Everything seem to be fine, I emailed the breeder a few more times and 2 weeks after picking out my puppy she emailed me to say new pics were up of the puppy. I looked and he is just so adorable. Well that was 2 and a half weeks ago and there have been no new pics or updates on the puppies. I sent an email last week and was told that new pics would be up on Friday. Waited all weekend and no new pics, so I emailed again yesterday and was told that they were really busy over the weekend with getting ready for Christmas. I can totally understand that. I was told new pics would be up by that night...as of this morning...still no new pics. Now again, I understand this time of year is extremely stressful and busy, but I am just really worried after reading horror stories of buying dogs over the internet...it has me REALLY scared. Should I be worried, what should I do? I dont want to seem like a pain and keep emailing her but I just do not know what I should do....help please!!!
Sorry again for being so long, but I thought I should fill everyone in on as much info as possible...
Maybe try calling them (do you have the #) and express your concern to them in a nice way. Say "I'm just a little anxious because I've heard so many bad stories of buying pets over the internet, and I just want to make sure things with my puppy are ok." Or something to that effect, be nice and don't accuse. If you still get no response, then I think maybe it's time to get firm and ask them what's going on. If you put down a deposit already you deserve to be kept up to date. Good luck!
Being a breeder, I can honestly tell you not to worry. Having a litter of pups (especially during the holidays) is a very busy event. Trying to get photos of on the go wiggly puppies can be an almost impossible task! To be honest, I usually don't take pictures of my puppies to post until they are 3-4 weeks old (they look like rats until then), and then don't update them until 6 weeks old. I do not allow people to make thier picks until the puppies are 6 weeks of age. There is no way of telling the quality and type of the pup before then (show quality, pet quality, temperament, quirks, etc.) I do send people weekly emails informing everyone of theier progress.. when they were switched to solid foods, how fast they are growing, shots, worming, weaning, etc. As long as your breeder has been keeping you updated over the phone, I wouldn't worry to much. Just remember the time of year and how wiggly those puppies can get, and you will realize that a lot is going on for them!
I would suggest you contact the breeder and ask if you could come see the puppies after the holidays. If they are only 3 hours away, it would be well worth your time to see them in person. Trying to get pics out to buyers, especially around the holidays is very tough. Time slips away very quickly. It would be easier for them to send you pics by email, rather than trying to update a website every week.
Well that kind of concerns me to, all the communication I have had with the breeder has been through email. When I try calling the number listed on thier website I get voicemail for another business. Also, I have received no emails from the breeder since making the deposit. The only email/updates I have gotten are when I email to ask.

Do they have an address? I think it may be worth the 3 hour trip up there to go see your pup. I am getting my pom tomorrow and she is almost three hours away. We drove up last week to look at her before putting a deposit down on her.
Ask them if they allow people to see the pups. I don't. Too much danger of virus. Ask them if it would be easier than taking new photos. Tell them the number seems to be another business, and do they have a home or cell phone that you could call on.
I would have done what Katz did before paying them, unless these people have a good reputation with a dog club or something. I don't let ANYONE visit my house until the week after they turn 6 wks. The last time I broke that rule I paid dearly for it, and will never do it again.
