have you taken him to the vet to have his eyes checked for infection or ulcers? in a lot of little breeds eye tearing is normal but he may have a clogged tear duct also. you need to be careful what you use around the eyes. you can use saline solution which people use for their contacts or you can get an eye wash irrigating solution from your vet,pet store or pet catalog.
only some suggestions to try, I've never heard of a treatment that totally fixed the tearing. Keep all hair around eyes short (incl by the nose) Use eye flush and wash around eyes daily they do have tear ducts that can be clogged, I've never heard of the treatment working Start useing bottled water
my shih tzus eyes do that also, the stain is red. really weird. i bought some eye wipes from "Pet Edge" helps with the odor too. there are lots of things on the market for this, but first i would take him to the vet and make sure like everyone said that its not a tear duct or infection of some kind.
it works, but its a day to day upkeep. i believe there are some other products that work better, but haven't been able to find them at a local store. perhaps one of the breeders on the board have a better product that they have used. hopefully, we'll get some suggestions, it really looks nasty sometime and gets kind of crusty. does yours do that also?
You need to take your dog to the vet to get her checked for ulcers. Well, it doesn't sound life threatning, so I guess he will be okay, not going to the vet. I have never thought it possible to fix tearing. Australian Shepherds have tearing eyes, doens't bother me. I suges teye wipes. You must use them every day.
therapy mom, yes, my dogs eyes do get all crusty, too. ( eye goobies, yuck!) She's white, so the staining looks really bad. I wipe her eyes with a soft tissue at least twice a day and have tried a product called Tear Clear, but it didn't work. I do hope someone knows of a good product, in the mean time I'm going to go get the wipes. Thanks for the ino!
My poodle has the same problem. It hasn't been giving her an odor howerver. i bought this stuff called "Tear Clear" and I saturate a cottons wab and wipe it under her eyes (careful not to get it in her eyes). I try to let it stay on there at least 20 minutes before I bathe her. Bathe her as normal and it clears it up greatly. Hope that helps.
