Help my dog has dry skin. I just noticed it this morning so this has just started in the past few days as I never noticed it before when I was combing her. Could it have anything to do with her having puppies she is 42 days into her pregnancy. I do have a mosturizer for dogs and I put it on her especially her belly .I noticed before when she was a puppy she got dandruf really bad when she was going in the car or nervious about stuff but it usually went away but this is all over her body!! She is on the raw natural diet maybe it is something in this . I am taking her to the vet today for a check up I will see what they have to say. What do yu guy's do for this problem?
I've personally never heard of a dog getting dry skin from being pregnant. Did you start her on the raw diet after she was pregnant? If so, maybe the change in the food was enough to do it. In any case, try mixing a tea spoon of flax seed oil or fish oil in her food every day (or pouring it over it, if you are feeding her chunks of raw food). Both of those oils are very very high in omega fatty acids, and really do wonders for the coat and skin.
i give flax seed capsules to my dogs daily and it helps their skin and coat, really does. my pug has flaky skin and it is much less flaky with the flax. you can get it in capsule form; i just put it in their food bowl and they eat it with their food.
Get moisturizing shampoo. Also, give her some vitamins, or coat supplements. You should give her puppy vitamins. Keep using the moisturizer. Get moisturizing shampoo and a conditioner. You need to get her on puppy food. The vet will tell you what to do. Personally, I would ignore it.
Thanks guy's I did take her to the vet and was recommended to start her on the puppy food too for her calorie intake she needs with the raw diet also she feels she has a yeast infection so I need to start shampoing with a Oatmeal base shampo. She also said that she has seen in some pregnant dogs especially ones that are nervious that they will also get flaky but this is whole body !! So she feels it is a yeast thing and it will go away when the puppies come and with the shampoing As long as it doesn't seem to bother her too much i will keep my eye on it and see what happens.
If she has yeast, give her probiotic capsules. You get them at the healthfood store of pharmacy, but get the ones with the most live bacteria in them. It is the same stuff as in yogurt called lactobaccillius, but there may be other cultures too. It is naturally occuring flora and it will greatly benefit the puppies, too. You can sprinkle the powder from the capsules on the moms food or if you are lucky, like I am your dog will just eat them. Do not put the bottle or the capsules near heat or on heated food or it will kill the bacteria. If a female human gets a yeast infection, most doctors will tell them to eat yogurt and this is why.
