My 8 month old English Pointer will not stop shedding!!! It is getting ridiculus! Millions of little white coarse hair EVEYWHERE!!! My bed, my bathroom, my clothes, you name it--there's hair there! I bath her once a month, now I dont know i that helps or makes it worse. You should se my car! it use to have a black interior, but not anymore! Anyone have any ideas on what would help? Shold I shave her?
Don't shave your pointer, it's already a short haired dog, you may actually worsen the problem. Just because dogs are short haired doesn't mean they don't shed. There's two things you should know. First she may be loosing her 'puppy coat'. Dogs tend to go through a period at 4 to 8 months of age when they loose their puppy coats. Secondly, if you bath her, but don't brush her regularly, you're going to keep getting the hairs. If you brush her every day for 10 or 15 minutes, you will notice a drastic decrease in the dog hairs that she sheds, because all of them are going to be shed into the brush and not on your furniture. Other than that, there's not really a lot you can do, other than just get a good vacuum cleaner.
my daughter has a pointer mix, same problem. everything in her house is covered. you do have to vaccum everyday, can get some vitamins to put in the food to help. forced air blow dryers work great. it will help with the shedding for a few weeks, but all you can really do is brush, brush and more brushing. keep plenty of lint rollers on hand.
Thnaks for the advice! I just took her today or a bath and I guess they brushed her pretty good because tons of hair isn't on my hand after I pet her. I heard about the super duper blow drying...a lot ofpeople say that really helps. I als o heard that puttin a raw egg in the dogs food that also helps...ut it's god to know abou his puppy coat shedding because I never knew that, so maybe there is hope yet!!!
LOL!!! How funny I should read a thread about an English Pointer. I am looking to adopt one from somebody in New Mexico. Well, I suggest that you brush her with a hound glove. You can also use a shedding blade. To get rid of the white hairs on your clothes and furniture, you can use those rollers that pick up dog hair. As for your bed, just don't let her up there. Bathing her will make shedding better. As for your car, try seat covers. You could aslo buy one of those special liners that you put doen on the seat that catches dog hair. Just brush her every day. Don't shave her though.
