We have a female collie that we rescued and she is very shy will not let us touch here she is not aggresive if we out of her pen she will wag her tail and run the fence like she wants to play. But when we get in the yard with her she will run and hide does anybody have any suggestion to get her socialable so we can find her a forever home
i'd just sit in the yard with her quietly. sit so she feels you are on her level. have some really good treats for her. do this every day. when she approaches hold out some treats. when she takes them try to pet her, talking to her. don't look her straight in the eyes as dogs take this as a challenge and dominance. start with this and gradually progress. she has to learn to trust you and have some confidence.
I have 4 collies and did rescue for a while...Sometimes it's a hold over from being abused or someone catching her and tying her up..I had one that took 3 months of very patient talking quietly and just a lot of stroking for her to trust us. It is not a collie's natural attitude to be that way. Good luck...By the way where are u?
