My parents, neighbors chow dog is on a chain in the back yard 24/7. My mom called animal control on them last summer because she had fly bitten ears and they didnt have a dog house. She stood in the rain and storms. My parents said she would cry and the owners didnt even care. Now she is out in the freezing cold. I called animal control this afternoon and she finally called me a few minutes ago. She said she would look into it. If nothing is done what else can i do???? Animal control said she would probably give them a fine because the city doesnt want to take control of animals because they would be responcable for the bills if the dog has something wrong with it. The city says they dont have the money to spend on the animals. Any thoughts?
how sad. i don't know what you can do, if animal control won't do anything. i doubt they would want to hear from anyone about how to take care of a dog. does she have food and water? at least water all the time?

My brother said she was caught up on the other side of the fence for 3 days before they realized it. There is nothing my family can do. They already got into a huge fight about it and the police were called. My mom thinks nothing was done because the owner is the mayors family. My brother said not to call animal control because he is afraid something will be done to my family but i had to. My parents were so nice to them when they first mved into the hose. They were giving that dog treats and petting her. But the women told them to stay off their property. They gave the dog treats because she would get so excited and want some attention. But now they cant even feed her. She doesnt have water at all times and they feed her when ever they feel like it.
Do you have a camera that prints the date and time the picture was taken? If so, whenever the dog is without water, take a picture and then take another picture every hour so that you'll be able to show the total length of time the dog went without water. For right now, just start putting together an album of the pictures. Also, if you see that the dog has any medical conditions that need treatment, take a picture of the condition every day.
Along with your photo album, write down the interactions you've had with animal control about the issue while they're still clear in your head.
The mayor is elected. If animal control won't do anything about the problem, take your photo album and journal to the newspaper. Someone will probably be interested to know what's going on with the mayor's family. You can also try contacting someone in the city council who is in the opposition party, i.e. if he's a Republican, go to a Democrat, and if he's a Democrat, go to a Republican. Someone in the opposition party would love this kind of dirt.
I had a similar problem next door to me...I took pictures and sent them to the president of the breed club...They got the dog taken away from the owners with the help of a rescue group and the police dept and aspca. It depends on what state you're in. Check the laws listed for animal cruelty
I don't know what you do with such heartless people. We had some neighbors move off and leave theirs in the backyard. No food or water, nothing. My husband fed and watered them for a long time and animal control would do nothing. They have a wooden fence and lock on the gate and they said they could no go in. Wish Dallas had Animal Cops like some states. It makes you want to do the same thing to these low lives that would treat an animal like that.
People like that should be staked out in the freezing cold and treated just like they treat these poor defendless animals. I don't and never will understand why someone would want animal only to treat it like that. These low-lives have no feelings what so ever. Maybe if you just keep pushin the animal control will do something. We had a situation next door to us and they would not do a thing. Wish we had something like Animal Cops in Dallas. They would not take the lock off the gate and go in and do anything. These dogs would have starved if we had not fed and watered them ourselves.
I went to my parents house today and looked at the dog and her ears are black on the tips and dont have hair on them anymore. Her tiny plastic water bowl is frozen. They have a dog house without a cover on the opening. She is in good weight though. It looked like they feed her table scraps because she doesnt have a food dish and their is paper plates and other plastic food containers all over. She also has a blanket on the ground. The dog house is made out of partical board and is right out in the open right on the ground. She just sits on the chain waiting for someone to come and give her some attention. I feel so sorry for her. It made me want to cry. I am going to get film for my camera and go over there every day and take pics of her. Animal control said she was going over there so well see if things have changed tomorrow
A similar situation to the one that you are talking about took place next door of my grandmothers house with a black young female chow, my aunt finally stole this dog off the chain, and she lives with my aunt now and her name is kallie, she has lived with my aunt for 5 years now, and if no one is going to take care of there pet they way they are supposed to, they should be taken away
i agree. if the local officials wont fdoanything, isnt there a "7 on your side" or somehtign you can call, or a local ppaer that will intervene or shame the locals into doinganything? or can you steal the dog and take ot to a shelter a few towns over adn turn it is as a stray? wrong, maybe, but it would be doing him a favor.
