Sydney has mange. I was wondering if anyone knows how long it will take for it to get better and possibly go away? Is it like a couple weeks, a month or longer? We found out about 3-4 days ago and she got a dip and some supplements for it, im just not noticing a change, is it to early? Thanks
It gets worse before it gets better. Ask you vet about Ivermectin to be given to her daily in conjuction with the dips that she will get. One of my dogs I got from the shelter had it and it took 3 months for her to look better and that was using the ivermectin and the mitaban dips once a week.
Sydney my dog had it really bad. She had lost most of her hair and that's why it took so long. I was just doing the dips and lots of supplements in her food at first. Then I asked my vet if we could try the ivermectin.Once she was on the ivermectin she only had to have 1 more dipping and then we started to see hair growth. She was on it for about 3 weeks. It is given in mass amounts that you slowly increase. Ask your vet about it. Ask him for the dosage. Heidi never took more than 1cc but she only started at .2 cc's and I increased it daily. You can buy it at a feed and seed store. It is made for swine and it is injectible but you would give it orally. I just made her some meatballs with it in it. It taste horrible and they don't like it. Is the dips she is getting called Mitaban? If not they need to be. I also know where you can obtain that if your vet is very expensive. Hope everything works out.

Get her on a diet with little or no carbohydrates. The carbs make a yeast that the mites eat. Also add a teaspoon of apple cidar vinegar to her water. This will help with the ph levels to make it where she won't make the yeast. visit the site, www.alternativepets.com
on the first thread you posted i had replied to you that the same day i found out my pup also has demodex.my breeder referred me to the alternativepets site and it helped me to understand about the mite.she only has a few small bald patches so we are not doing the dips as of yet and i hope we dont have to go that route.you can also put lemon juice on the bald spots. another friend of mine had a dog with the same thing and in about 2 months of the "home remadies" her dog was looking as beautiful as ever with out the dips and has no problems til this day.we also are changing her food to a yeast free food.the mites thrive on the yeast in a dogs body.
gook luck. and just keep in mind your not the only one fighting this battle.
Thank you everyone, you are all so helpful! I think the redness is starting to go away now, at least it is on her chin. I'm not sure what kind of dips she is getting but i will find out today. Thanks agian everyone!
