Well i remember being told as a young child that cats can see ghosts. That cats will just stare at like a corner in the wall for minutes not moving. My cat did this alot and it creeped me out. Also i was told that cats/dogs can sence when bad wheather is comming. I dont know about this one....they both just creep me out.
Did you see the thread about the Tsunami? Almost no animals were killed because they all sensed it coming and moved to higher ground. YES, I believe they can sense alot of things that we can not. Did you see the thread a few days back about dogs sniffing out cancer in people? Amazing!!
Mandy, my oldest female schnauzer, is terrified of storms. She shakes and pants so hard that sometimes I'm afraid she'll have a heartattack or something. The other nite she started shaking and when she does she will try to get under something or behind something like the bed or couch. I could not figure out what was going on with her until about 5min. later the rain came. It litterly poured down. She was aware of it long before I knew it was coming, so I know for sure they can sense when storms are coming.
The night before my brother was killed, my Great Dane Zeus acted like he never acted before. For 10 straight hours, he did nothing but pace the house, whine, went from the front door to the back door. He wouldn't lay down, wouldn't eat, nothing. He was extremely agitated, and nothing would get him to settle down.
Do I think he knew my brother was going to die? ABSOLUTELY. There's no other explanation for it. How I wish dogs could talk...
hey RoxyStar, did you see the post i made a while back about the 60 minutes segment on dogs that sense cancer? i didn't catch it, but from what i heard it was super cool. so, yes, yes yes! to your query, i think they can sense it all and then some. of course, my dogs have no sense, but that's another thread. ;)
I'm so glad you made this topic! About a month ago I was praying to my grandmother. She passed away in 2000. I get kind of upset sometimes because we were really close and so I will pray to her and tell her about my life. It was really late at night, like one in the morning, and I couldn't sleep. I came out in the living room and was praying to her. My cat was sitting on my lap. As I was praying, his head kept darting around like it would if he was watching a bug or a fly buzzing around. I turned on the lights to see what it was he was looking at and nothing was there. But he kept doing it! His pupils were really dilated and he would stare at one area, and then his head would dart to another area. Then he started growling this really low growl. I don't know how to explain it. Kind of like the sound a cat makes when it's mad or scared. Totally freaked me out! I was never going to say anything to anyone, so I'm so glad there are others that have had this happen to them. I totally believe that animals can sense that kind of stuff :)
Huntersmom, That is really bizarre. Do you think your cat saw your Grandma? I really miss my Grandma too. She died 1 year ago this past November. I wish that she could see my little Toby but she was gone before he was born. If he was a girl I was going to name him Lily after my Grandma (Lillian). She would have loved him. Maybe he can see her. I know she sent him to me. (I've never said that before either)
I know they can hear things we cannot. When I was young we were outside standing in the garage talking to someone and my dog was inside the driveway. All of the sudden she took off running inside the garage and right after she made it in it started hailing.
Sometimes Georgie will look at something we cannot see. My husband thinks his dad George who passed away 1 year and half ago is coming back and freaking out our dog. You can tell she hears or senses something but we certainly cannot see or hear it.
Dogs can sense seizures in epileptics too! There is a girl I see around at the shops where I live and she has a labrador that senses her seizures and when she's notified by her lab, she knows to lie down and the dog lies down next to her until the seizure passes!
