You need enough room for them to stand up, turn around stretch out a bit. My brother's pit is about 65 pounds and he borrowed my old crate which cost about 50 bucks, give or take. It also depends on the quality you want to get.
look into a used crate. you can usally find one close to half the price you would pay for one brand new.the ones i have cost close to $100 brand new, but found a few as low as $25.i have pit bulls and i chose to get one that is just a little bit to big for the dog. i like my dogs to have "their" space. hope it helps.
A crate that is 36 inches long would probably be plenty, one that is 42 inches long might be even better. If you can't find a used one, this is one area where Ebay really shines. I bought a 42 inch crate for our Akita for $60 including shipping. If I had bought one from a store, or even mail ordered it from a pet supply warehouse, it would have cost us $90 to $100.
Check into the Want ad digest. Make sure you disinfect what ever you get with a bleach and water solution and give it a good scrub. Ours was used, but was out in my friends garage, when she gave it to me. It was flithy. Now is is spotless. It is about 10X too big for my dog, so it is perfect for her during the day. Ella's mom
