We have a 3.5 year old Golden. He appears to be a healthy dog, loves to run and exercise. He became sick with what I thought was the stomach flu over Christmas, vomiting often and sometimes the vomit contained brownish matter, resembling coffee grind. I thought it was blood, what wasn't sure. This stomach flu lasted maybe one day, not longer. He is sick again today, but vomited up a whole bunch of bile and reddish and brighter blood. Not a lot, but it was definately blood. Then he had diarrhea and there was also blood in the stools. Is this another stomach flu, my Shih Tzu just had the stomach flu with no blood being brought up, or is my Golden ailing with something else? Like I said, he appears healthy, eats well, looks great....
Don't wait. He might have injested something that has punctured his stomach or intestines. He could even have cancer. In any case, blood in the vomit or stools is potentially serious, i.e., LIFE THREATENING.
Yes! Go to the Vet. This is a very serious issue. Critterlover-- Actually dogs can get the flu. Well, a form of flu anyway. They will on occasion get little 'bugs' that cause illness, although in this case I think it is something much more serious. I have had more than one Vet tell me this. And I had a little flu bug go through our dogs this Fall. Our Vet asked if my husband or I had been ill. So not only can pooches pick up 'bugs' on their own, but in some cases....you and your dog can trasfer them to eachother.
I sure hope this person gets their Golden to the Vet. It sure doesn't sound like the flu to me!
