we are going to ypsilanti sunday, to visit the puppy and put down a deposit.
My first choice of breeder is the one in Lawton , near Paw Paw. But we are know that July and August will be completely free for puppy care and they won't have any available until August if at all. The one we are going to seems almost as good. Our third option seemed a bit puppymillish - right down to the pictures of the pups.

we met our puppy todayin ypsilanti. She is second generation puggle.
The Puppies in Lawton have pure breed parents with papers and medical info. They are microchipped and have to be nuetered. I think they are worth every penney but wouldn't be available soon enough. The family we are getting our pup from have a litter of friendl giggly kids that have loved these pups crazy. There is a cat with extra toes that rules the house. There are also ducks. The mom and dad are mixed pug/beagle. The poppa dog sleeps with a blanket and loves to be next to his owners. There is no microchipping, no medical history of the parents, and no neutering requirement. The pups sleep in an adorable pile on a dog bed in the living room and are not crated.
Our other option.... the third - that i stated was puppymillish....IS. Apparently so bad they made the news.

I would never line the pockets of a back yard breeder or puppy mill! Go to a shelter! What you are doing is keeping the breeders in business, working the breeding dogs to death. Is this something that you want?

Please educate your self before you buy. If you want I can PM you site after site of how dogs are abused just so the owners don't have to work. They live off the dogs. This is wrong and you will be supporting this if you buy a puggle.

WileyBlaze - Don't waste your typing strokes - or breath - it's not going to work. She doesn't care and she thinks it's just "so cute" to come on here and tell us of the multiple byb's that she's visiting and how it's "worth every penny" She simply does not care. It's sickening. Taking up all this time looking for a dog that I'm sure will end up "given away" shortly after they get it. When I asked what her Plan B was, I got no response. This thread has gotten out of control.

And why come on here and post about it?? Why not just PM the two people, yes i said two, that care to hear it and spare the rest of us???

sgstanton73... clearly you DON'T read the posts we all love mixed breeds, most of us own one, myself included, I have two. I would NEVER EVER purchase a mixed breed while there are plenty of them sitting in pounds, waiting to be rescued.
A cat by any other name... is still a sneaky little furball who pukes on the sofa.

The truth of it all is We decided on a pug/ beagle mix and the more I read the more I realized the ones that end up in shelters are likely to be puppymill untrainables. Many people find gems...but we can't play the odds with our first puppy.

The Lawton breeder is exactly the ideal kind of breeder that everyone suggested I find -however we have JULY and August for 24/7 PUPPY care and there wasn't one available.

So yep I'll continue to post under the topic of Puggle about puggles. I will follow the rules listed above.

We have been looking for the "right" puggle for over a year now trying to avoid pet stores as I know they are not the best place to purchase from. We are from Colorado and we check the shelter web sites on a daily basis as well as visit them monthly. Here's the problem. Most of the younger dogs in the shelter are HUGE! Huskys, labs, collies, etc...
We really need a smaller dog and the smaller ones tend to be over 5 years old!! We have done shelter dogs before and the first one had MAJOR issues!! She was TERRIFIED of men- especially if they wore a hat, she was over protective and bit my cousin, and eventually was run over by a car when cablemen let her out of our backyard. She was scared and ran and got hit.
Our next dog had issues with little kids and none of our friends with kids could visit with her out.
I'm sorry but I don't think I can do another rescue dog- it's too hard and they are so unpredictable. Has anyone else had these issues??

I have had three rescue dogs and all have been amazing. However, I spent significant time visiting them in the shelter before I decided to adopt each of them. My current dog is an English Bulldog/Beagle mix, or a "beabull" if want to be silly about it.

I specifically wanted a bull breed, but I wanted to adopt, so I did exactly what you are doing. It took me more than six months to finally find, and decide on Sammi. She was 7 months old when my wife and I adopted her and she had some horrible habits. Now she is a year old and she is literally the best behaved dog I have ever owned.

My advise is keep at it. You are doing the right thing by adopting, and with some time and perseverance you will find the right dog for you.

We were/are not ready to rescue a dog. We have always been willing to shelter a dog for 24 hours but knew we did not have the resources to take care of a dog. My adult son is home for atleast the end of the year. He needed the companionship and responsiblity of dog. Kaylei is wonderful new dog. She came unkennel/house trained. But she trained herself...goes in there for every nap. Kaylei follows at my son's heels. Comes when I call her. leaves her kennel from a nap and walks to the door. She is respectful of the cats and duck. She gets my son away from the computor/televisiion/electronic games. Gets him on a schedule that I would never be able to..up, showered and dressed by eight. This has been a great four days. I am confident we will never buy another dog - but I am not sorry at all about getting a "clean slate" for this experience.
(He is outside reading while Kaylei explores the yard).

Dante your puggle is absolutely adorable! I'll be getting my puggle in the next couple months and can hardly wait! You'll have to keep us posted on how she's doing!

I am really in love with my 4 month old puggle Vito. We have had a hard time potty training him. He poops in the kitchen right after we bring him back in. He may have even just gone. I kennel him during the day when I am gone to work. Someone does come in and let him out. He does get to go outside many times a day and during the evening. He is part beagle so he is always sniffing and have not been able to catch him from that tip. And he also wont sleep through the night up at 2-5 and 6:30 when the alarm goes off. HELP

We rescued Rocky at 4 1/2" Puggles are very stubborn, BUT once they learn something they never forget. We used a "special" treat when he pooped outside and a ton of praise, we have had him almost a year and he still gets that "special" treat after he poops. It took less than two weeks, but you have to be consistent. Feed him, watch him, when he starts sniffing the floor and going in a sort of circle he has to go. I have picked Rocky up when he started and carried him out and when he finished given him a treat.

As for the waking in the middle of the night. Does he have to go or is he wide awake? Make sure he has a ton of exercise in the daytime. In the evening start to slow down, maybe let him sit with you while you massage him, etc. Bedtime, put him in his kennel and cover it with a blanket. Across the back down the sides with the door area uncovered and part of the sides near the front uncovered. That worked for us. Also we took Rocky to training school. Up through intermediate. It really works, its basically teaching you to teach your dog. Remember its not the dogs fault for the mistakes he makes, its yours ; )

The very very best of luck to you. We can't imagine our lives without Rocky. Oh and for some reason or another the closer the get to 18 months the more they settle down, its like a switch being thrown. Lastly if your dog is not fixed, please get it fixed. That makes a huge difference!

It does get better and you will be sooo glad you worked with him...
