Wow, I looked at the rest of the dogs at that shelter and there are some gorgeous animals waiting for new homes. I was a bit shocked at the large number of Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes. They must be a very popular dog on the east coast.
Thanks for sharing the website and I hope they can all find homes before it is too late.
I'm in Toronto Ontario. I'm sad because the Toronto Humane Society is full of Beautiful Pitbulls and American Staffs, and anything that resembles them currently with a new ban in the future. Owners are just dumping their dogs so they don't have to deal with the legislature of the ban. I was in tears when my roomate made me leave without one...
basset_lover- They aren't really popular, but they tend to be the ones filling up the shelters. Mostly because they're considered to be bad pets so no one wants to adopt them... and they are used alot in street fighting and once a dog gets too old or week they just throw them on the streets, or kill them. In my shelters(in California) there are a ton of them too, actually they're the majority. it's so sad because pits can make great pets. But so many people don't understand that. :(
Yes, in NJ there are tons of pit bulls..specially in the Pennsulken one I got Shadow from. And that one is a kil shelter. (I can't volunteer at kill shelters, it makes me too sad, so I volunteer at the one closest to me). The shelter lied and told us Shadow was a purebred black lab, which was what my dad and sister wanted. But from the moment I saw her, I knew she DIFINATELY wasn't pure lab. My fmaily didn't listen to me, until the vet confermed it. But honestly, I wouldn't care if she was a mutt or purebred. I like he rthe way she is. :)
