My friend got a new puppy today. The ad in the paper stated chow/lab cross puppies. Well she got the little guy home and it was dehydrated and potty in the belly. So she took him to the vet and they told her hes a pitbull mix. And the teeth say it all. Pits and pit mixes are banned. So needless to say she might have to find a new home for him. I will post some pics and see if anyone else thinks he looks like a pitbull. To me he looks like a fuzzy brindle ball of cuteness.
All the bully breeds have a different shaped jaw in the back even my boston terrier does. He only has one big moler in the back and it sticks out and makes his jaws wide. This puppy has the wide jaw with only one big moler. The rest of their teeth are like any other dog. But this could be a mix of boxer, American bulldog or anyother bully breed. But the vet says pitbull. So now my friend is afraid because the pits or pit mixes are banned. The only real way to tell is the ppl she got him from. They keep saying hes a chow lab mix. But we asked if we could see both parents and they said they dont own the father. So we dont know what else to do. I dont think he is but i cannot say with 100%
Hard to say but it looks beautiful, and like a chow/lab. I'm just wondering why it would make a difference and who would be asking? With mutts from the paper you really have no choice but to take the word of the person who gave it to you. He looks wonderful to me!

My neighbors have a Chow-lab mix and she has a massive, pit-looking head as well, and she is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met.
All dogs' teeth are the same. Pit teeth are the same as poodle teeth. (edit- just read the thing about the jaw- sorry!) But the thing that may be a problem is the color; labs and chows do not have the brindle gene so puppy may be a pit-chow cross. Or a brindle boxer-chow cross. Lord only knows! But I'd seek a second opinion

Well the only reason she even cares is because thats what the vet said. We live in a city with a bann on that type of dog. You can get into lots of trouble and she doesnt want to bond with this puppy and have it part of her family only to have animal control see him and have him taken away. I dont think he is and i told her not to worry. I just know there are a few ppl with pitbulls on here and wanted to get some opinions.
I understand. I agree with the new vet idea. Let her tell the vet what kind of dog it is, the chow/lab mix will be on the puppies paper work from then on. I truly think it looks like a chow mix. My brother has a chow/lab and he looked very similar when he was a baby. Good luck!
it doesnt look pitty to me. my cousin just got a mix puppy a few months ago. when she emailed me a picture it sure looked like a pit mix to me. a few months later when i saw the dog again it didnt look like a pit at all. register the dog as what you were told it was. it looks fuzzy enough to have chow in it.
Thank you for the responces. I agree. She was so upset when she got to my house. That vet upset her because he said she should get rid of him now. I think she needs to calm down and forget about it. As long as he is raised to be a happy, loving dog who cares.
