Yesterday i took all my girls on a long hike where they got to play at a waterfall and pond at the end of it. This was the most exercise Winnie my lab has gotten in a while. Today she is acting weird...could she be sore from yesterday?
Let me explain how she is acting. She seemed restless earlier, couldnt find a good place to lay down. When she was moving around she semed kind of hunched over in her back end and her tail was hung low, not between her legs but not held up high like normal. She finally found a place to lay down in her room on her couch where she stayed. She normally never lays in there while im home. After about an hour I let them all outside and she trots out there, still hunched over and tail still low, and goes and lays down and starts licking her backend. When i called her name she stopped but wouldnt get up. Even when i had her dinner bowl in my hand it took her a minute to actually get up. Normally she is food crazy. She went to where she normally eats and sat down leaning agianst the wall. She didint eat at first, the other two finshed their meals before she started eating. While she was eating i took that time to check her poop outside for any abnormal signs, everything looked normal. I went back in and she was done eating but just kept sitting down leaning agianst the wall. I kept calling her to come over and she wouldnt come, i even offered her a treat and she wouldnt come. Finally i got her out of that room and put her on the couch. She then ate the treat.I then tried getting her to sit with me on the other couch and she just looked at me like she was depressed.Normally she would come right over and lay next to me, she loves the attention. Could this all be from our exercise yesterday? She ate both breakfast and dinner and has been drinking water. I felt her stomach but im not sure what to feel for and she is a bit overweight so i couldnt tell if it was normal or not, seemed normal. What could it be?
Is your girl spayed? If not, these could be the beginning signs of Pyometra - which turns lifethreatening FAST. Is she drinking a lot? I hope she does not have pyo. Pyo is pus in the uterus, which will get so filled that it ruptures- this is FATAL. This is why breeders are often so adament that pet girls get spayed.
She could also have picked up Giardia (Beaver Fever) in the water.
Please let me know if your girl is spayed - I will worry until I know!
Ok- Giardia is an intestinal thingy (I think it is a protozoa) if it is that you will know it soon because she will have the poops shortly. It, however, should not be life threatening for a healthy dog- well, unless you didn't treat it and just let it wear her down.
She could just be sore, though, or she could have pulled something or bruised herself somehow.
I'd keep an eye on her, for sure. Usually dogs don't act the way you described unless they REALLY feel bad.
Hi, I just wanted to give everyone an update. Lastnight I spent some quality time with her before i let the other two out of their crates. Basically she just layed down all night which is unusual. At 2 1/2 years old she is still pretty active, always getting a ball for me to throw, or playing with her sisters.
This morning she was eager to go outside and to eat however her tail has been hunglow the whole morning. She will wag it but it is still low when she wags it. She did jump up on the bed lastnight and on the couch this morning though. i'll be hanging out with her all day and if this doesnt get better i will take her to the Vet monday.
