I've never seen any in pounds over here in Virginia...It might depend on the location...I guess some breeds are more popular in certain areas. As a matter of fact...I rarely see ANY smaller breeds in shelters here. I really hope that the rescue group can send to Canada and that you guys can work something out.
Well, my only guess as to why there are so many Rt and Rt mixes in pounds around here is just because they are an extremely popular where I live (kentucky) As for small breed dogs I know more people who own RT's in my area than probably any other breed of dog(with the exception of Beagles and coondog mixes who are also very popular where I live) Anyway those three kinds of dogs are what most people in my area own so naturally I suppose that is why so many end up in shelters.
Wow BB...usually when I'm walking ChiChi people don't even know what she is..or they say.."oh is that a JRT" Actually...since living in VA, I don't think I've ever seen another RT...odd, but there are so many breeds out there..and too many to chose from. Usually we see APBT's and Rottie's. I guess being that it's a military town and most people living here are men...stereo typically speaking..those 2 dogs are manly men dogs! lol
Yeah, DogGoneIt we have lots of RT's around here, as to why I am not really sure, they just seem to be popular pets here. I have alot of friends with Rat T's most of my buddies are horse owners and RT's make good stable companions I suppose as do JRT (there are quite a few of those around as well but not as many as the rats , since they are more pricey.) Even though there are alot of RT's around I can still understand what you mean about no one understanding what breed you own, our RT Rodeo is a carmel brown color, most around in our area are black and white or an occasional liver, so no one ever know what breed she is either! Of course it doesn't help that she is over weight as well and most RT's people know are thin and lanky. Does ChiChi have a dogster page? Would love to see it! Here is Rodeo's! http://www.dogster.com/?78928
Rodeo Rosie and ChiChi need to be pup pals..I'm putting in a request now. I love how you dress her up and I know what you mean about the colors..ChiChi is the same coloring as Rodeo..except ChiChi's tail isn't cropped and she is considered a "standard" RT. She's about 25lbs, so much bigger than what Ro looks like.
DoGoneIt- Yes, I agreed that the RT's needed to be pup pals! Both your Chi Chi and Nikko are very cute! Rodeo is only 10 in tall but see has put on alot of weight, a little butterball. Bessieloubop- thanks for the compliments, Ro is an old pro when it comes to taking pictures, if only the rest of my dogs would follow her example it would make taking their pics alot easier!
