well I just had animal controll swoop down on me wanting to know "how many dogs do I have and how many are pit bulls." What a joke. I have been told "I am runnin an illegal dog rescue! HUH? Supposidly it is illegal to rescue a dog.
I contacted David Ralston today who is the first rep. on the list above and was told by his office that the bill has not yet been assigned to a committee and I could not "oppose" it yet. Does anyone know what is happening?
Hi everyone, I am also near Atlanta and very interested in helping oppose this bill. I have two pit bulls, one a rescue, and am active on a pit bull web forum where Georgians are trying to get information. If anyone knows when the next meeting is, please let me know and I will pass it along to other concerned folks. Thanks.
Ontario just voted today. Bill 132 passed. People have 90 days to register, alter and microchip their pits, or any dog resembling a pit. I know people who are listing their houses today so they don't have to live with this.
I want more info On this subject please visit My Website I have a beautiful Rednose pitt She's the best family dog weve ever had WE HAVE TO PULL TOGETTHER AS OWNERS and stop this nonsense They are good dogs with a good loving family they are great pets Just because others are irresponsible our (familly member pet) should not have to suffer for it!!!!! Visit my website and contact my Email http://home.comcast.net/~georgiaboykennels/GeorgiaBoyKennels.html
I was currently looking for a pit puppy, and came across this discussion and and had to get it on it. I am glad that there is support for the breed. I had been hearing about the ban but I didn't think much about it, but I see now it is far more serious than I thought. Is it to late to help in some way or another..as far as going to the hearing if they are not over. Has anyone done any research on how many dog attacks there has been in Georgia that are not pits? They are basically trying to make the breed extinct in GA.
what a way for you to introduce yourself to this forum. while i am sorry your cat got killed and am in agreement with you about your neighbors being idiots and unable to restrain their dog properly, it is not the breeds fault. the american pitbull terrier has a high prey drive as do many other breeds such as german shepherds, huskies, many of the hound breeds like greyhounds. should they all be killed also if they attack and kill a cat ? it is a basic instinct bred into certain breeds to help them function for what they were bred for. i think it is absolutely disgusting for you to want to kill this dog because of the carelessness of its owners and for acting within a breeds instincts. i cannot even begin to describe how irritated i am by your post and i dont even own a pitbull.
well said scout, i am so sorry to hear about your cat, we are not in denial, there are alot of bad pitbull Owners, it is not the dog or breeds fault it is the bad owners, have you thought about reporting your neighbors if you suspect illegal things going on? They are not good pitbull owners if they let there dog or dogs run wild that is not a good pitbull owner and very irrisponsible. But to say all pitbulls should be killed is not right, and i truly hope you do not mean that. Report the owner of this dog, don't blame the dog.
"And I am supposed to trust the people who own him to keep him contained? We already suspect they are involved in illegal activities."
Then you should be reporting them every single day!
"I hope they past the legislation in Texas in force the pit bull owners in Texas to have extremely high insurrance limits in force all the time. Someone needs to pay for the killing and maiming these dogs do. Wait til it is someone you love or your pet a pit bull kills or maims. Do you think you would still love this breed? If you would, you are in denial."
It is so easy to pass judgment on and entire breed simply because you are too think headed to understand it is not the breed! Most attacks are NOT Pit Bulls! And you probably would not know a real pit bull if it BIT you. UGh it is closed minded people like you that are the problem. Instead of going after the true criminals you go after their tools!
"Pit bulls do not see children as humans. After getting tired of killing the wildlife and other's small pets, are we supposed to wait til it kills one of our kids or grand children?"
You are VERY wrong a Pit bull is particularly fond of children as a general rule but any dog can be made people aggressive. No I would not wait until it harmed a child. Adog with that kind of kill drive must be contained (should have been taught properly to begine with.) You have every right to shoot the dog dead if it is on your property causing mass distruction and as it sounds this one has. Not sure weather or not it is a Pit Bull though. But you do not have the right to shoot on sight only the courts can decide this not you. You do not have a right to shoot a dog simply because you think it is a pit bull either.
"I love my dog....just not your pit bull. "
Well bully for you! So what you don't love my pit bull I am just about gonna cry myself to sleep tonight (not) Fine you don't have to like my dogs but you DO have to respect my right to own them and I happen to be one of those people that likes to protest protest protest. It is not beneth many of us to stand so strong for our right to have the companion of our choice that we would not fly to Texas if necessary. LOL one of the biggest rescue groups for pit bulls is IN Texas so good luck in that state. You think you know sooo much. closed minded is what you are you need to get educated on this issue before you spout off about things you are clueless about.
Ok first of all let me explain a few things.
1 if you were beaten and starved and near death you would kill a turkey to eat too. If you were thrown in a pit weak from hunger and thirst and made to fight for your very life you would be bitter too AND I guarentee you would need some serious therapy after all was said and done IF you survived. A pit bull on the other hand (those lucky enough to be rescued) look into the face of a human and often with their last breaths show LOVE and kindness! IT IS ALL THEY WANT! To be loved and cared for. They didn't ask for this PEOPLE did this ands keep doing it because too many people like you say there is no way to correct it other then to ban the breed!
2nd show me where the primary attackers in human attacks have statistically been proven to be primarily pitbulls OR any bull breed for that matter! You can't because it is C-R-A-P! My 10lb mix breed is more likely to bite a chunck out of you then any one of my pits.
3rd Do you even know what a Pit Bull is? Would you recognize one if you saw one? Probably not most people can't. I am so sick of hearing all the negativity about these dogs! It is not the dogs let me say it again NOT NOT NOT the dogs it is people. Why can't our stupid elected officials with all their fancy educations see this! It is not going to solve anything by banning the breed because ignorant people will simply move on to another breed and then another. The Cocker Spaniel is more dangerous then a pit Bull and guarenteed more likely to bite a human before a Pit Bull will. If Pit bulls have to go then guns have to go and lets not forget alcohol and Tobacco oh and household cleaners, should I continue because these things are more deadly and cause more deaths per year then a dang dog period much less a pit bull. You are more likely to get hit by a bus then you are to get mauled by a pit bull so well there you go ban the bus system put all its drivers out of business. Cyotes and fox are the primary killers of livestock and you want to ban the pit bull wel you better wipe out the cyote and the fox too. Hey why stop there why not go after the coons the oppossoms and the ckunks too. Lets not forget the wolf I mean people like you have been after them for centuries!
You have not got a single clue what a pit bull even is much less what they are really like all you see is hate and that is really sad.
again i am sorry about your cat. it is a horrible thing that happened. what is so hard to understand about it is it could have been any breed that has a high prey drive. but your emphasis seems to be on the fact that it was a pit, when it could have been any dog or any pure breed or mix breed. i dont think that death of the dog is the answer when it is an instinct. death of the owners of the dog maybe or at least a severe penalty for being so irresponsible. there is more at stake when approving bans on pits then just getting rid of or imposing regulations on them. it opens the door for many other breeds to potetially be banned in the future. the irresponsible people who own these breeds whether it be pits or any others will find another breed and be just as irresponsible with it. i do find some fault with you because this can happen when cats are let outdoors. would you be as mad at the person who ran over your cat because it was in the road ? would you want to kill the person who was driving the car ? it sucks to be a responsible owner and have this happen to you but again banning the breed is not the answer.
yes there has to be a way and there are other options besides stepping all over the rights of the general population just to suit the needs and desires of a few. But rants like yours do not help they only feed the desires to destroy and bann MY dogs. I say my because any attack on a pit simply because it is a pit is an attack on my dogs. I have just as much right to have my pit as you do your beloved cat. I have that right UNTIL I exercise it in a way that harms anohter. The people you speak of abused their right and as I see it if what you tell me is true then they should lose that right. but to attack a whole entire breed for the actions czused by one careless owner is ignorance in its truest form.
I'm sick of negativity towards any breed because people are either uninformed or have had a bad experience and label all dogs from that breed bad.
But, it isn't limited to amstaffs, pits, or anything people percieve as such.
Having a cocker spaniel, people have misconceptions about my dog. Everyone makes stupid comments about how she must be unhouse broken, pee everywhere, and be an agressive nasty dog. I've heard of groomer's having issues with cockers, but mine is so super friendly that she pouts when people on the street don't want to play with her.
Pretty much everyone has preconcieved notions good and bad about breeds, but with BSL the best and worst are coming out about 'pits'.
now i have to throw my two cents in. i was bit(and scarred) in the face by my father's beloved cattle dog. do all cattle dogs deserve to be stereotyped and destroyed? a neighbor's airedale mauled and killed my 13 year old family cat, right in front of my eyes; do i blame the entire breed? i could, if i was ignorant and bitter, but what good does that do? this isn't even about pitbulls, in my opion, it's about people not taking responsibilities for their dogs, whatever breed they may be. until that happens, it will just be one unfortunate incident after the next, another BSL passed, another dog euthanized, ad nauseum.
Our obedience training is great in the house, pretty good when we are in petsmart... Loose leash walking on the street is impossible. Either everyone wants to pet her when I'd like her to sit first, or she's trying to climb up strangers like she's attention starved. *shakes head*
lol sounds just like a cocker I will never forget the first time i took bear into petsmart he was greeted by a little boy with an icecream snadwich in hand. Bear hit the floor and rolled on his back for a belly scratching and when the boy bent down to scratch Bear peed all over him and his icecream out of pure happiness. LOL I nearly died!
My cat was on my front poarch inside of a fenced yeard with a closed gate. My cat, Riley, was not outside of the fence when he was killed. The pit bull that did it tore his way through the gate to get in.
Some of you are beginning to understand this is really about responsibility of the owner. I only seem to be after all pit bull dogs and owners, but the truth is that it seems many people will never be responsible for their loose dog's behavior. This one owner was heard to say "All dogs like to chase wildlife." Well, my cat was on my front poarch when he was attacked.
I will be gone now and not be back. My last two posts never made it, so I guess I am being censored by the moderator. I will be surprised to see if this one even gets posted. If it does, I hope this never happens to a member of your family. Goodbye. Eagle98
by see ya, sorry again about your cat, my pitbull would never have done that, cause she is not ever off her leash or unattended like all good dog owners are supposed to be, IT IS THE LAW. sorry about the caps.
