Ok, my dad has decided that he wants to add another dog to our zoo of 11 animals. We already have 2 dogs (rottie and APBT) 3 cats, 2 birds (cockatiels), 1 gerbil, 2 hamsters (teddy bear) and 1 bunny (holland lop). We have been looking at some cross breed puppies, and have decided that it's the Tibetan Spaniel, Shih Tzu cross female puppy that we're interested in. So, if any of you could tell me any possible information on either of those breeds that would be great! Thanks
I own a shih tzu. You have to brush them daily or they will matt.(or keep them short at about 40 bucks a cut every six weeks) They have small mouths and sometimes crooked teeth, so you have to be very aggressive in keeping their teeth clean or they will end up rotten. I brush teeth daily or every other day. They are hard to potty traiin (when I adopted mine, she was not housebroken and it has been a constant battle) but I have heard that from others, too. On the upside, mine is the most affectionate dog I ever owned. I wouldn't trade her for the world.
I might be afraid of a small dog with a rotti and pitt. But maybe I'm just paranoid in that respect.

Hi, I am also owner of 11 animals, much like you. I also am having a terrible time knowing how to go about getting another dog. I am not sure about your choice of breeds....you don't want any dog bred for hunting. Read my posts from yesterday. .. A collie has been suggested to me as a gentle breed. Maureen
Ok, thanks everyone. as for my breed choices theres not much of a problem there. yes my other 2 dogs are bigger, but my APBT is the sweetest dog ever, and the rottie, well she can be loving at times too. But its not like the small dog is going to be left alone with either sandy or tiny anyways. But we're still debating on which dog, and if we're even going to, it's a big choice. The one dog is a tibetan spaniel x shih tzu, and the other one is a mini australian shepherd x cavalier king charles spaniel. we're leaning more towards the shih tzu cross. any more info would be great! Thanks
your asking a question to which the only answer can be gotten through trial and error. how can one really answer that question? It is not that people do not want to help but there really is no solid answer. you act as if this is an extreme emergency.
Let me give you an example of why this is so hard to just answer and be done with it. I have a cocker Spaniel. Cockers are known bird dogs and swimmers. Mine hates to swim and loves to mother over baby ducks and chicks. Now he is good with them and never hurts them but most of them are not like that. A few breeds were suggested but no one can give you a magic answer to this question. It really depends on not only the breed but the dog.
there is no way to know which dogs will be good with your animals. As for thebreeds you mentioned do a google search or go to the AKC website. they can tell you about every breed there is. but there is no way of knowing what kind of disposition a mix breed will have. it could be more like on or the oter breed within the dog or neither.

Well, i wasn't asking about health problems, what it's going to look like anything like that. i simply meant, what can you tell me about the breed like personality wise. like for example: labs are hyper and good with children! And i wasn't asking if this cross breed dog was going to be good with any of my other animals, i know that for that it just depends on the puppy, and the animals in my house.....i know nobody can answer that for me. And so sorry if i act like it's an emergency, but we went to look at the puppies yesterday, and only 3 people had posted. so no, it wasn't a life and death emergency, but it was pretty important, and i wasn't able to get hardly any info. but i guess opinions dont matter any more now, since we picked a puppy out. thanks to the 3 of you who helped. and btw, i don't know if you meant it or not, but it seemed like you were really talking down to me in your post, like i'm some little kid, so in the future if you could not do that it would be great!
