Hi, I recently got an 8 yr old male chiuaua and he was not neutered. he sprayed alot and I decided to get him neutered. It has only been a day since and he is still doing it. Will this stop??? I hate to have to give him up. HELP..
Is he housetrained?? Since you just got him, he may just be marking his territory and will hopefully stop. Usually when a male dog is a puppy, they do not begin to lift their legs until they're about 6 or 7 months old. I have a 10 month old chihuahua and I got him neutered when he was 6 months old and he still squats. Please don't get rid of him just because he is marking. Give him a chance to stop and teach him not to do that.
First of all, you need to back up and start him with basics of housebreaking. Put a leash on him so you can work at correcting this behavior.
Altering a dog stops the production of testosterone in high quanties, but it does not remove the testostrone from the bloodstream. This takes several weeks.
Also, realize your dog now has a bad habit that you must correct as you should correct any bad habit. It will take some time and work and diligance on your side to retrain this habit.
I'm always amazed at how some dogs just walk around and pee on every surfice in sight, for years, and their owner finds it normal. There is this yorkie at my clinic that just squirts pee out the front of his cage, ugh.
