Frankie, my 3 month old shiba inu/rat terrier is doing great...indicating when he needs to go outside, learning commands like crazy, and just generally being a sweetheart. The only thing I would change about him is he loves to chase and provoke the cat, who would simply love it if Frankie dropped off the face of the earth. Frankie really just wants to play, but Dante (the cat) is, well, kind of psychotic, and wants nothing to do with him. Dante isn't completely blameless, either, since if he would just sit still or give Frankie a swipe instead of running away, I'm sure the dog would lose interest.
Anyone have similar stories, and if so, what are you trying, or how did you work with your dog? I'm sure it will (maybe) get better as Frankie gets older, but it'd be great to hear some commiserating tales in the meantime. :)
Oh, and I made a page for Frankie on Dogster. I need to add more pictures, but here it is:
I don't know what to tell you...I have 14 month old Bichon Frise. My daughter recently moved back home and brought her two cats with her...well we have cats and a dog all over the place. Same thing here...the cats run and Chloe' chases...I would think if the cats just got her a couple time it would stop...but no. So I'll keep my eye on this topic and see what kind of help you get.
Cat chasing is the only no no in my home. I pounce on them and roar NO. They are normally totaly shocked. I also snatch them out of my air as they dart past and roar no as well. They pick it up quickly and start controling themselves more and more.
Thanks for that bit of advice. Frankie's a sensitive pup so knowing that we're really upset by his chasing might have an effect - if we can catch it in time.
At other times he's perfectly well behaved with the cat, but just going near him will set him growling and hissing...how do you tell a cat to chill out? (No, I don't expect an answer to that one.) Even the rabbit (the PREY animal) is cool with the dog. <sigh>
I've tried everything with Chloe' and the cats...but nothing seems to work. I guess we'll just have to wait till the cats get tired of her and get after her. It sure will be more peaceful when that finally happens.
Kiba thinks she's a cat! She tries to play with them so bad but they just sit there! Sometimes she'll chase the cats, and they'll run, she'll chase.... then the cat will turn around and chase Kiba. It's the funniest thing!
One of my cats Kitten is a growler.. dont know why she just gets PO at everything and she can get Kiba going so bad that she's barking and howling and roo-rooing (thats what it sounds like).
But then other times the cats will just come up and rub against her and she'll just quietly follow them and be friends until the cat turns around and smacks her.
Kiba has also picked up swatting back at the cats (taught by Kitten). Kitten will just sit and swat at her, one day Kiba was just laying in front of her out of reach and Kiba swats at the act. IT was the funniest thing!
