I siad it once, but I guess I will say it again....There are lots of sites to help you decide which dog is right for you. www.akc.org will give you all the info you want on different breeds and www.purinaone.com will help you decide which breeds are most compatable with your lifestyle.
Do you have to get purebred dog?.....check out the shelter and get a dog from there (save a life).
All the members on here have thier favorite type of dog that they would suggest. It is not possible for us to tell you what dogs we think YOU should get. Do the research about health problems (do you know what the health problems are for bullies, chis and pugs?), grooming, exercise needs, energy, etc. and decide for yourself. Do you have children or want them in the future bc that will make a difference too. You need to take a survey and do research and decide.

That is very true what Tonka said. I have a German Shepherd, and she is in the house all the time aside from her play group time and when we go for walks. She is great in the house all day...doesn't get into things and is very calm for such a big dog.
Almost every breed is happy to be a full tiem housepet. Some are not however, but most are. I have a hosue full of full time housepets. They shed everywhere and make me clean a lot, but I love them anyway.
I think it depends on what size you want. A big dog like a lab or golden have very strong tails, and if you have a small home they will knonk things off tables. but a small dog might not work because of young kids, and people with big feet.
I would suggest going to dog shows if there are any in your area and speaking to the owners of specific breeds you are interested in. You can also go to a local kennel club in your area and speak to breeders or owners.
I always say that reading a book is a good source of information but the best source is coming from someone who knows and has experience.
