Hiya all you barfers out there. My mom is worried that our puppy is collecting all the bones inside of her and not pooing enough. I have tried to tell her that they don't poo as much on barf. And, when they do it is about half the amount they do on processed food. Am I right? Bobo is the puppy. He seems very happy. He is putting on weight and growing every day. His nose is wet, cold, and shiny. I thought that if she was constipated with bones, she would be sick.
if your puppy is not pooping alot i would assume it means he is using all the nutrients supplied in the diet and there is not much waste to come out. if he is thriving and haappy and active then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. i do not feed the barf diet myself but if there were a problem with the bones causing an obstruction the signs to look for would be no stool at all and consequent vomiting and lethargy. they would stop eating also. as long as you see no signs of this then assume he is fine.
Oh, that is good to know. I am so glad I don't have to be worried. My elderly mother lives with my husband and me, and she is always so worried about Bobo. Bobo never vomits, and is very active. She eats good too. Except when her teeth bother her. I am glad to know she is fine. MMH P.S. Scout1, you are the best!
I also do a raw diet and there definatley is a big difference in a the amount of poop ( alot less and smaller!!) . Like scout1 said if the little guy is happy then he is fine. I sometimes grind the bones in a grinder if I think they will have a problem. The dogs definatley like the raw a lot better then the commercial . Mine love the veggie day they have!! Good luck!
i like the raw diet too, mine have steve's real food. the poo has dropped down to 2 times a day. course, i had trained mine to go on command, so they used to go at least 4 or 5 times a day. now i just let them out to do their thing and it has dramatically cut down.
