Ok first of all to clear a few things up. Yes, I was desperate to find a home for my dogs. I still am. YEs Shadow was crated alot of the time, which is NOT fair to him. But I was doing the best that I could. I did not have the problems with him that pits is having. Anyone that takes in rescues knows that there will be an adjustment period. HE came from a loving, good home, so it is understandable that he was having seperation anxiety. Honestly, he was in your house for all of two days before you boarded him pits. You did say in your posts that you were building a house with much land for him to play in so I thought it would be relatively soon. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate everything you did. YEs you could have put Jazmin down. If I knew she was going to react the way she did, I never would have brought her to you. I wouldn't have brought either one to you. It cost me well over a 1000. to make that trip. I think I might have traumatized my son. He screams evrytime I put him in the car seat now. :) I don't wish anyone bad and I appreciate everyones help and input. I would be lying if I said it didn't upset me to see him up for adoption. My only thing is maybe you could have let me know before you did it. I'm sorry if he caused you problems. Now I just have to figure out what to do to rectify the situation
P&D you picked the wrong person to jump about not caring for shelter pets. As Icy said Mizzi adopted a pregnant Rottweiler that had 12 puppies. The mom could not feed them all, so Mizzi has just now stopped getting up at all hours to feed them. Quite frankly when she first started talking about this I did not think all of those puppies would survive, but they did because of Mizzi. In addition to the puppies she also adopted two pregnant cats. At one time she had 12 kittens, 12 puppies, and the mom's in her house.
I am not sure who said this, but someone asked you why you posted Shadow for jazzy to see. I agree. Put yourself in her place. I would be crying my eyes out if that was one of my dogs. Why post about Shadow on TP at all? I would be willing to bet if someone else was having the problems that you having with Shadow, you would be the first one to give advice. You have contradicted yourself big time as far as your training abilities go.
Excuse me but I had him over a week before I boarded him and the only reason I did that was because the neighbors were complaining about his barking. And I have called you several times and can never get ahold of you. I told you from the start i would do what I could to keep him from going to a shelter and I have done just that. Sometimes things go wrong and because of my long lay off from work things have not progressed as quickly as I anticipated with the building of my home. How am I supposed to tell you anything if you never answer your phone or return any calls? Shadow has had no training and he is three years old. This is not Jazzy's fault as I understand her circumstances all too well but that does not change the fact that we are not talking about a puppy here. We are talking about a 3 year old dog with an enormous ammount of strength. He is also NOT the only dog I have to work with. I have my own to keep up with plus three rescues. I am sorry you think it is such a horrible thing I am trying to find him a permanent home but you know Jazzy when Shiney was looking into someone who might be willing to take him you didn't react like this. Where exactly would he be rightnow had I not taken him in? In a shelter possibly put down by now? You yourself said they put them down after ten days.
Your husband said he did not want to give him up yet he brought him here didn't he. He sat in my den for over an hour talking about how he wanted his dog but Shadow was left here anyway right? Then he says he is coming back in two weeks to get him. You said he would just leave the dog with you and you couldn't handle him. I did not concern myself with weather or not to decide if he would be here permantly or not because I thought he was going back. Now I have had to calls from you not even emails or posts from you asking how he is doing. I have not heard from your husband and you never answer the phone. Funny I called you around the time you posted last and still got no answer. So just how in the heck and I supposed to comunicate anything to you?
After not hearing from you or getting any answer to calls I had to decide if I needed to find him a permanent home or if I could feesably keep him. If I was on my land and my house was done don't think for a second I would not keep him. But I am not done with my house and unfortunatly decisions have to be made. The best decision for this dog is not to be in a two bedroom ranch style home with a small fenced front yard. And he certainly does not belong in an apartment in a crate. He deserves a good life and that is what you trusted me to see he recieved. I am doing just that. Because of circumstances beyond my controll our home will probably not be finished till mid summer now. Do you understand that I am laid off and there is not money to finish my home? Unexpected but it is what it is none the less.
I really do not care what any of you other members think really I don't I was trusted to keep shadow safe and to make sure he got a permanent safe and loving home and that is what I intend to do.
Jazzy you know I luv ya and you know darn good and well I would not hurt Shadow. I know you did your best and this is not easy but if you answer your phone once in a while and once again think of what is best for Shadow again you will see I am right about this. You really think taking him back and sticking him in a crate in an apartment is what is best for him?
Well, it's really up to Jazzy IMO and I have nothing else to add, except..
P&D...In some topics..I feel that you should be cut some slack..I feel that there are times that people jump on you too quickly..this is not one of those times. I would be heart broken if I saw my dog listed up for adoption on a case where we had been told a story about a boarding kennel that had way too many abandoned dogs..and then to see my dog??? Enough said about that...one more thing...If you followed ANY of Mizz's posts...you'd eat your words right now, I am really not trying to jump on you because that's not my style..but look at it from Jazzy's point of view before you get so darn defensive.
I'm in Virginia...I'm willing to help if Jazzy wants Shadow back. I am in between Mizz and Icy.
**Edit..BTW, I wanted to add, that I don't think you had any ill will P&D..I don't think you made any false promises..but I do think you should have put a little more thought into it before it was done and perhaps tried just a little harder to get a hold of Jazzy. After all, Jazzy got in contact with you through TP..You could have posted something about it here.

do you not understand that jazzy posted that she could not keep the dog and time was running out? She was desperate for a home to place these dogs to save them from the pound because they faced certain death after ten days. Had I not cared enough to stick my neck out the dogs would most likely be dead by now. Sorry about jumping on mizz but I am just so upset.
Jazzy knew from the start that these dogs were taken in because it was that or they ended up PTS. I am sorry if any of you disagree but I am doing what is best for that dog and that is final. I am trying to be understanding because I know Jazzy is expecting and I know how emotions run high during this time but I have not done anything wrong. The woman never answers her phone!
These dogs ALL need homes period. the fact that two of the listed dogs are not from the shelter does not matter they need homes. That is the main focus here. This kennel is not some puppy mill or byb she is a legitimate business and she unfortunatly used the honor system when dealing with people. I know how that is I have been there. What is she supposed to do when she drives up and finds a litter of pups in a box? Or better yet someone boards a female with the intent of abandoning her and finding out 6 weeks later that you now have a litter of puppies on the way?
Stella has been there since she was a pup. Freckles the cat came in because she had kittens and a young boy killed half of them by throwing them against a wall. That is the only animal she purposly took in. Homes for the kittens have been found but no one wants mama cat. Rosey the Pit was chained to her front gate and was having pups when she pulled in the drive! Reagle the Beagle was shot at because he was hunting chickens so the owner boarded him and never came back. Most people gave fake names. She has over 55 kennel spaces and half are abandoned dogs. I just thought that since people on this forum have a great deal of love for animals that this would be the best place to start to find these dogs homes.
Oh and btw let me say again I keep calling Jazzy and get no answer I have been for weeks. Including this morning and yesterday! No offense to anyone but this is a moot point. Shadow needs a permanent home and because of circumstances beyond my controll that cannot be with me. Which was never something I guarenteed anyway. I am making decisions based on what is best for Shadow not anyone else.
Now can we please get back to the real topic of this thread?
I called and called and called I even posted recently that I would call again as she said she got my message. She knew I was calling and still no answer. I am not sending Shadow back to NY and if that pisses everyone off well I am sorry. I will find Shadow a safe suitable home where he will be happy. He does not deserve to live in a crate the rest of his life or end up in a shelter to die.
If any of you are willing to help transport these dogs then Shadow may be one of them. If anyone has a better foster placement for him until a home is found then step up. Right now I am responsable for him and weather he is fostered or a new home is found first his safety and what is best for him WILL come first. So until something better comes along Shadow is and will remain in my care. Jazzy loves this dog and I will not see any harm come to him nor will I break my promis to her. End of discussion.

Jazzy & P&D I am in Illinois so Im not sure how much help I can be with transport, but I did make a few calls to a couple of APBT rescues that I am affiliated with and I had several return phone calls. Midwest Pit Bull rescue and the KY APBT rescue both have said they would help with transporting Jazzy and with placement if needed. You might also try contacting Flying Paws to see if they have any scheduled flights in your area. They normally only fly animals for rescues, shelters etc...But considering the circumstances they might be willing to help. http://www.flyingpaws.org/
As far as the comment about Mizzi...P&D if you knew anything about anyone on this forum then you would know that Mizzi plays an active part in rescuing/fostering unwanted and abused animals as does many others on this forum. The thing is you have to know your limits as to how many animals you can care for adequately. I think you meant well but you should have thought things out more thoroughly because obviously you were not equipped to care for another dog.
***Edited By: GinaH on 3/18/2005 11:48:50 AM*** Reason: **
Gina did you read anything I just said? It is not about that I was not equipt to care for him. that has nothin gto do with it. It has to do with what is best for him period. Jazzy trusted me to decide that and that is what I am doing. If you want to help shadow find a home then you should be talking to me about it I am the one that has him I am the one who took over that job when I agreed to take him. I know my limits and if I havd not been laid of work and my house was not set back as to the time frame it would be finished I WOULD KEEP HIM! But as it stands circumstances have changed and I will not just keep him in this home when he would have to be crated alot and have no room to run. I am going to do what is best for him no matter what anyone thinks. Jazzy cannot take him back she is not able to so everyone stop trying to find transportation to get him back to her. She and I have finally already talked. The reason she has not called me is because she can only get incoming calls on her cell and she does not answer calls from unknown nimbers and I have not always called from home. A suitable permanent home wil be found for Shadow. If a foster home becomes available for him that is suitable and can meet his needs then that will be looked at as well. but until either happens Shadow stays here!
I did not imply that Mizz was not a good person I replied rudly and I am sorry my only point was when the clock was ticking and time was running out I did not see but three people come forword one being me. Shadow is not going to any rescue shelter.

P&D, before you adopt out Shadow you should have him neutered. No matter how careful you are screening potential adopters, bully breeds are highly suseptable to people that want to breed them, usually for all the wrong reasons. I would seriously find a free/low-cost clinic to have this done.
This may be one of the reasons behind his over exuberance. Shadow looks like a very sweet dog and he deserves every chance he can get to find a good home, whether with Jazzy or a new owner.
I have every intention of getting him snipped asap. No money right now but you can bet he is not leaving my house without it. Your right he deserves every chance possible but he is not going back to Jazzy she has already said clearly that she cannot take him and it was pretty clear why she had to place him elsewhere. Again I am going to fulfil my duty to this dog and see this through. Sending him back to Jazzy is not an option.
tomcat, I wasn't ragging on P&D. I made a very solid suggestion about neutering Shadow. Anyone in bully breed rescues will agree with me. Unaltered pits and Am Staffs are very vulnerable to people wanting to adopt for all the wrong reasons.
I'm sure P&D will agree with me, also. Anyone in Rescue, this is the first and foremost important part of adoption.
I do agree with you whole heartedly pitz And he is going to be snipped b-4 he goes anywhwere. As for the rest of the dogs we have a problem there because none of us has the funds to alter all these dogs. As for Rosey the female pit I am looking into getting someone to who is willing to pay for one dog to be altered to pay for her. We have approx 25 dogs that only two I know for sure are altered The Lhasa and the female Shep mix. I do not have the funds to pay for the others.
P&D, I don't know exactly where you're at, but there is organizations that will spay and neuter for free, especially for those in these types of circumstances. Contact the AHS or the ASPCA. They have a thing called the "neuter Scooter" which is a mobile clinic.
Also, I have guilty of biting off more than I can chew in the way of taking on too many animals. Sometimes emotions take over good common sense. I had people warn me for years up until a couple of years ago when I had an unfortunate incident. You just have to detach yourself and ask if what you're doing is in the best interest of the animals. There's nothing wrong in seeking help.
I think it was very noble of you to take Shadow. More than likely he would not be alive right now if he went to a shelter. We can't predict the future and things happen. One things for sure, Shadow got a window of a chance at finding a good home.
