Dog lovers no longer have to leave their best friend at home when going on vacation, even if they fly to their favorite pet-friendly destination. United and Midwest, now have pet programs that reward owners who frequently fly with their canine companions.
United Airlines United Mileage Plus members, now have the chance to earn 1,200 bonus miles when their pets fly with them.
"United is pleased to introduce United Pet Class for our customers who enjoy traveling with their pets," said Jerry Dow, managing director-Worldwide Advertising and Promotions for United Airlines. "We recognize that pets are members of the extended family and an important part of our customers' lives. We are honored that the AKC has chosen to fly United."
In addition, as the “official” airlines of the American Kennel Club, all purebred dog fanciers are eligible for special discounts when flying United Airlines to or from an AKC event. Depending on class of service and how far in advance of the travel date tickets are purchased, United will offer from five to 15 percent off published fares. Fanciers may obtain the discount by contacting United Special Reservations at 800-521-4041 and using the code "515SP."

Whether shipping pets as checked baggage or riding with them in the cabin, Pet Class customers who register for the offer will earn the bonus miles when they purchase and complete one paid, qualifying roundtrip flight to any United destination worldwide. To qualify, the pets must accompany them on at least one segment of the same itinerary. United’s offer is good from now until May 27, 2005.
To ensure your pet stays as happy and comfortable as possible, United recommends examining your pet's health and acclimating your pet to its kennel prior to traveling with the animal. United transports approximately 150,000 animals per year. For more information about traveling with pets, visit the Travel Support section of www.united.com and click on "Pets" under "Special Needs."
Midwest Airlines’ recently unveiled “Premier Pet Program” allow owners and pets to earn rewards. Pets earn one free roundtrip for every three roundtrips (or six paid one-way trips) that they fly with their owners on Midwest Airlines.
Also, owners who are Midwest Miles members can earn a free roundtrip for their pet by redeeming 15,000 of their “human” Midwest Miles.
For more information visit www.midwestmiles.com and use the code PET15 to redeem the miles. Or call 800-452-2022 (in Milwaukee, call 414-570-7000) for more information on this pet-friendly program.
To much liability. Your dog might be great and freindly on the ground, but up in the air where their ears could be hurting, lots of strangers, kids screaming, your dog or someone elso dog could get very very nervers and aggressive. Then there is the dog fights that could brake out.
Plus there is the fact that a lot of people just hate dogs and/or cat or are allergic to them.
Which is why they no longer serve peanuts to many people with allergies.
